Ebook on kindle but not on kindle home screen.

Hi mobileread!

I'm excited to be part of this community. Just purchased my first kindle paperwhite yesterday. I'm having an odd problem I'd hope you can help me with.

I'm using Calibre and I just side-loaded a book onto my kindle. Calibre shows that the book has been sent to the kindle's main storage and I can see it when I click on the device tab in calibre as well.

I am able to find it on my kindle and open it if I use the search function on the device.

However, it does not show up on my home screen anyplace. I can't find it if I sort books by recent, author or title.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Hello--

In order to see sideloaded books on your Kindle, you need to be set to show "downloaded" books. (Yes, I know you didn't download it, but Amazon is strange) I've attached an image of what it should look like.

Thanks Shalym but that didn't quite do it.

Kindle is already selected to 'On Device' as opposed to the cloud.

I included some screen shots to help everyone see the problem I'm having.

For some reason mobilereads would let me upload photos so I put them on Imgur.

As you can see the book comes up when I search for it but it isn't where it should be in 'titles' nor is it at the top of my recents list.

That looks like an older software version. I can't even remember when that was. I have a paperwhite 1st version that still looks like that as it never got the newer updates. I wonder if that is why a book wouldn't show on having it set to on device/downloaded.

Hopefully someone can answer that for you.

Firmware too old, update to current (5.6.1.1 for the PW-1).

Okay so a side benefit of this is I got my kindle updated to the most current version.

I am now on 5.8.9.2, but it didn't solve my missing book problem. Any other suggestions?

I'd take the book off the kindle and then putting it back on. See if it shows up then. It should though.

Update your info box (you have a PW-3, not the original PW newly purchased used) or mention what model you are speaking of when you post.

What format is the book?
Is it one that the Kindle can read?

The format is MOBI.

I'm wondering if something is wrong with the metadata?

I was tweaking a book and had reloaded and deleted it several times from the Kindle. Once the azw3 files was definitely in the Documents folder, but never showed up on the Kindle library.
Crossed my fingers and did a full stop and restart and it was there.

I'd be happy to send it to someone to see if they can get it to work. I haven't read the rules on personal info like emails etc. but if you have a good anonymous sharing method (or not if it doesn't violate the rules) let me know!

By full stop and restart do you mean going into settings and restarting your kindle?
