Real world Kobo Aura One Experience

I would love some feed back from KA1 users. I'm interested in ordering, but can't really see one before hand since I live in usa. From what I've read in reviews it looks great, it would be switch from Kindle Voyage. The larger size, comfort lighting and waterproofing is what interest me most, but had a few questions.

Typically how long does battery last?

Does comfort lightening really not work right on most people's devices?

Does highlighting a text work or are reports of it being really frustrating true?

How satisfied are you with it? Why do you love it or hate it?

I read daily on my KA1, and i find I charge it about once a week. I've not timed out the number of hours I get, but I feel like it is a little less than my Kindle Voyage, but not a big deal.

My comfort lighting works great.

Now the auto-adjust lighting, on the other hand, not so much. I turned off the auto-adjust feature and manually increase/decrease the lighting as needed.

Highlighting is a definite weakness in epubs. I read it is a lot better in kepubs, but I have few of those as most of my reading is through Overdrive.

I find it hard to get the exact phrase I want when it involves a large body of text. Also, epub does not support crossing pages, but I read kepub does.

I was a four-year user of various Kindles -- Kindle Keyboard, Touch, Paperwhite, and Voyage. I moved over to the KA1 in January, and I really enjoy the larger screen size, increased font options, and the comfort light. I also found my library selections increased by a small amount as there were a few books that weren't available in mobi format.

I really love it so far. Highlighting is not something I usually do so I don't know about that.

At first I experienced battery drain really fast, but after a firmware update (automatic, one day it was updated) and a few charges, it's much better. At least a week when reading every day.

The light is great, and I agree with the answer above, in manual mode only.

It's really compact and light weight for the screen size, and with the cover that puts it in sleep mode when closed it's a really handy book reader.

I recommend it.

From a month to a week, depending on my reading time. (i.e. I can't tell, as I sometimes read a lot per day and somtimes hardly)

It works on all devices, though some people are complaining about green spots. Auto lighting I have turned off, it was always not correct.

I still prefer an IR touch screen, but hightlighting does work, though sometimes it's frustrating. (I don't highlight a lot, only mistakes I want to correct later on).

Love it. The only drawback being the capacitive touch instead of IR touch. It's large, without being huge, I love the comfort light (a lot easier on the eyes in a dark bedchamber!) and I like the waterproofness.

If I had to chose now between the H2Oe2 or the One (IR vs capacitive and 6.8" vs 7.8" being the main difference for me) I'd go for the One again.

The most important thing in ka1 is SCREEN.
It's fantastic have 1 entire book's page in only one screen. I guess this is the nearest thing to paperbook that I've tried.

as other user has mentioned, my aura one also has same battery issue: its remaining power dropped 10% from 60% to 50% in a few seconds with different version firmware including latest one. this happened many times.

I read on my KA1 every day. Battery drain depends on how much time I spend, but I minimize it by turning off WIFI and auto sync. I love the size. It's the same as my iPad but SO much lighter. So far, I love it.

5 days

Doesn't work, Green blotches and uneven lighting.

Does highlighting a text work or are reports of it being really frustrating true?
Frustrating, slow

How satisfied are you with it? Why do you love it or hate it?[/QUOTE]

Only think I like about the Kobo Aura One is the screen size. Everything thing else sucks about it and I barely read it. Kindle Voyage is a better device.

I have my KA1 now since late last year, I read most nights and during the day a couple of times during the week. A charge usually lasts about two to three weeks with this kind of use.

If I do a marathon session reading several books it lasts four or five days.

Comfort light works OK for me and the screen is fairly uniform at all light levels, no blotches.

screen size is fantastic, much more enjoyable to read than my Kindle pw.

I have moved from successive Sony readers to Kindles (big mistake!) to finally Kobo.

I would say I'm a happy Kobo customer and only frequent the site to generally improve my know how on ways to manage my large book collections and am very grateful for the help, courtesy and wealth of knowledge I find here.

I will be buying another Kobo device in the near future.

how big was in terms of number of pages the biggest book that you have read with a single battery charge? can one battery charge give you the chance to read a big book as 1500 pages for example?

it was after.

I'm a slow reader on average I was reading a couple hours a night. Defiantly would have to charge it once a week. I left wifi on and didn't try anything to improve the the battery life in anyway.
