Overdrive search ka1
For some reason, when I search on my ka1 with overdrive selected, it always gives me 0 results found. For some books, if I search in all and then click into it, I can put a hold on it at my library.
I got curious because I haven't found anything that let me borrow, so I went into overdrive on my phone, and picked a random book that was available for checkout at my library... I searched for that exact book under overdrive, and it found 0 results. So, I searched under all, found the book, and I don't have the option to check it out??? I finally found a book that is available to borrow from overdrive from the Kobo. It still doesn't show up in the search if I choose overdrive in the drop-down, but if I search under "all", I can click into it, and then I have an option to borrow it. Is this normal? Do others see this type of behavior? It isn't what is advertised, and is frustrating to me, since the library integration was one of the big pulls of the ka1 for me. For reference, I'm on 4.3.8945 currently. Thanks! |

I'm having no problem getting books filtered by Overdrive either by title or author. Could be an issue with your device or your library. Are you logged into your library on device?
This doesn't sound like your scenario, but if it was a specific book or two, it could be that it was a book (or version) that the library had but was not in the Kobo library. For on device borrowing Kobo uses it's own files so it's possible for a library to have a book that you could borrow via ADE and put on your KA1 but not be able to sign out via your device. |

It isn't perfect for sure. For instance, I checked out a copy of Julie of the Wolves from my library. Fully expected to see it on my KA1. But it didn't download after a sync. So, I searched Kobo and yes, the book was available in the Kobo bookstore, but had a different cover than the library book. Possibly a different version? At any rate, I had to side-load that particular book through ADE. Maybe the Kobo copy needs to be exactly the same the library copy to work? I don't know.
Only issue I've encountered so far, but having had one, I guess it could happen again. I'm running the latest firmware 4.4.9298, updated this AM. Edit: I don't often search for library books on my KA1, I do most of that on a tablet or computer, then auto checkout for my holds and sync deliver my library books to the KA1. But I did search a few books and they came up fine using the Overdrive filter on the KA1. I've really loved the library feature, other than that one instance where I had to side-load! EDIT TO ADD: I should clarify that I keep referring to books borrowed on device, but technically what I've been saying also applies if you borrow it on your computer and are just syncing it to the device (rather than sideloading it with ADE) as in graycyn's example. Sorry, I'm new... So, if I check out the epub version of a book from my computer (or phone), I can just sync my KA1 and it will see the book and download it? I don't have to do anything to tell it to send the book there? That's awesome! |

Yes, provided that your library and Kobo have the -same- ebook edition. Which most often should be the case, except for works in the public domain.

I can live with the occasional failure of the Kobo bookstore to have the same version of a book my library does, because most of the time, it works great! Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk |

Ok. Still struggling with this. About a week ago, I put a hold on a library book from my ka1. Last night, I got a notice that the book had become available, and was auto-checked out. I synced my Kobo, but the book hasn't shown up. I went to the book page on the Kobo, and the option there is to place a hold. I went to my library website, and downloaded the book in epub format there (to distinguish between epub and Kindle checkout). But no matter what I do, syncing my ka1 isn't causing the book to show up.
Do I need to turn off the auto-checkout of holds on my account? How can I get this book to show up???? |

I shouldn't think you should need to turn off auto-checkout. I keep it on. I don't know why sync isn't downloading it for you. What worries me is that you are seeing a hold option for a book you've already checked out, I don't think THAT should happen. Unless maybe your library has more than one copy to lend and there's no wait list.
Nor should downloading the book via ADE also have any negative effect on the sync, because I've done that as well. Hope someone more experienced can help you! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk |

Yeah. Seems like it shouldn't give me the option to place a hold, but it does. Trying to place the hold again throws an error of the "something went wrong" variety. I am able to successfully place a hold on a different book.
After I get my oldest to school, I may try removing my overdrive account and then adding it again in case there's something up with the registration or something. ![]() Thanks! |

Have a look in you library on the Kobo web site. I believe the library books should show there. The desktop app or the Android or iOS should also download the books.
You could also try the "Repair" option on the Device information page of the settings. This was added because of situations like this. Something had gone wrong and books weren't downloading. It triggers a re-download of all the books from Kobo, make sure you have some time when you do it. |

Okay, as a test, I found a book that had the option to borrow from overdrive from the device. I tried to borrow, and I got the "there seems to be a problem" error. So, it seems that I'm able to put books on hold from the device (I've done that a few times), but as far as I can tell, I can't seem to actually borrow anything from the device or download something that I borrowed elsewhere?
EDIT: so, I went to my library website, and it looks like I did actually check out the book from the device. It is showing as checked out according to my library website. Go figure. Now how to get the book to actually come to my device. ![]() Last edited by TuxGirl; 05-12-2017 at 11:51 AM. Reason: more info |

Resetting to factory defaults didn't change anything. Not sure what is going on. Is Kobo tech support any good with this type of issue? I know I can just go download manually and pull it over with ADE, but that defeats the point of the library integration on this device!
