Enable fullscreen on Icarus E653 (Boyue) without root?

Hi everyone!

Is there a way when using Android apps to enable full screen and hide the system bar below? Is kinda annoying when reading either epubs or manga with android apps and the system bar takes that space.

I had to root my Boyue and Onyx to do it. Why not root? It's not that bad, at least on a Boyue.

Well this is a new device and i may brick it . i have the newer model of Icarus E653 (carta model built in 2015) and i dont know if the root process is compatible. But it is important to have fullscreen.

Is the process easy? I know what are the gains of root for android phones but which are the gains for an ereader other than using fullscreen? I also have google play store installed

It wasn't hard or dangerous on my T61.

I did
3- How to Install the Device & Adb Driver (Win 7 & Win 8)
then
1- How to root your device & Install Google Play Store (I skipped installing Google Play Store)

The hardest part was getting adb to see the Boyue. I had to enable USB debugging then adb saw it.

It was no big deal. I took my time. I cannot guarantee it will work on your device. So I understand your fears. Perhaps ask on that thread. But I don't think even a failed root would brick a device. What version of android do you have? If it's 4.4 the above method won't work.

I understand your doubts. I went for it because I want total control of my device. In fact I did it to get fullscreen.

There is actually a setting to enable full screen by hiding the status bar in Settings -> User Defined -> Hide Status Bar. So root not needed I can't believe i missed this setting.

just found the option to hide status bar on my device. lol. thanks.

You can use Button Savior to be able to use the navigation keys while in full screen. I bought the pro version and mapped the camera button to adjust the screen brightness. It also has a power button to turn off the screen. I hate the physical power button because it's hard for me to find it. There is a non root version of Button Savior.

The power button on the T61 is outrageously hard to find. They couldn't have hidden it better by design

They could've designed it that way just to annoy people. Maybe that's why there was never a large supply of either the T61 or T62. And now they're laughing at how many people bought it. 😸
