Problem with Calibre and Kobo Glo HD: IOError: IOError: disk I/O error

Hello,

I have a problem with my Kobo Glo HD software version: 4.3.8966 (03/14/2017) and Calibre 2.83.0

All is fine when I connect my Kobo with my laptop, I can access to the files but when I launch Calibre it is impossible to synchronize.
I have this error after a few minutes:
"
calibre, version 2.83.0
ERREUR : Erreur: Erreur pendant la communication avec le dispositif

IOError: disk I/O error

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 88, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 511, in _books
File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 1704, in books
File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 161, in device_database_connection
IOError: IOError: disk I/O error
"

Could you help me with this?

Most errors in that line of the code indicate a corrupt database on the device. This can still be the case for a "disk I/O error", but that can also mean a problem with the device and how Windows is accessing it. Has the device been mounted read-only? Can you access it via Windows explorer and copy a file to it?

If the device is accessible from Windows, it will be a corrupt database on the device. The only solutions to this are to restore from a recent backup, or get the device to generate a new one. That is done by signing out of the Kobo account on the device and then back in. Unfortunately, you will lose the reading status of sideloaded books, but the books will be reloaded by the device after the setup.
