Cant get "USB downloader mode" to replace Firmware Kindle Keyboard 3 B008 -

I have purchased a SH Kindle Keyboard Kindle 3 B0008 and wish to revert the firmware and jailbreak.
Currently it has 3.4.2

I am unable to get the device into what is referred to as 'USB downloader mode'.

I have followed several instructions and none seem to yield the desired results.
Could someone please advise:
1. What should appear on the screen in "USB downloader mode"?
2. Is it essential that device is connected with USB to initiate this?
3. The exact procedure to engage this mode
4. What should somewhere be replaced with in "./k3flasher /some/where/mx35to2_mmc.bin info"
5. Is mx35to2_mmc.bin a file that should be downloaded from somewhere?

I run Ubuntu and have tried
1. Connect your Kindle via USB to the computer. Hold the power button for 30 seconds and then without letting go, press and hold the vol - button for 1 second, then release only the power button, wait 1 second, then release the volume button.... from https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/K3noobdebrickatk

2. from the README of k3flasher
Now make a physical USB connection to your device and do the reset.
Remember to keep the Vol- button pressed during reset.

If your device's system is actually up and running, the preferred way to
do a reset is by going through Menu -> Settings -> Menu -> Restart.

3. If your device's system is bricked, hold Vol- and then shift and hold the
power slider for at least 15 seconds. Then release the slider and keep
the Vol- button pressed. After a maximum of 15 seconds, k3flasher should
recognize the device.

I noticed one guide also mentioned using the vol + button which I have tried also.

With all attempts the most I can get is a drive mounted from the kindle in linux, and no combination of k3flasher seems to detect the device.

Please help me get this organised.

I can get it to one of two displays

1. When not plugged into usb when the mode is initiated.
k3flasher does not detect.
lsusb shows: Bus 005 Device 055: ID 15a2:0030 Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.

2. When plugged into usb when mode is initiated
Goes into normal usb drive connection mode.
Screen says it is connected in USB mode and to just charge while using kindle, eject your kindle from computer
lsusb shows: Bus 009 Device 011: ID 1949:0004 Lab126, Inc. Amazon Kindle 3/4/Paperwhite
unmounting the device does not take it out of this mode.
Performing the steps for "USB downloader mode" nothing seems to happen.

Using Kubrick has detected it and it is flashing atm.
However, for the Kindle Keyboard (v3), it does not seem to have any options for choice of firmware and forces v3.4, unlike the other 2 devices for which there is choices for "optional".
As such is the 3.4 it flashes with:
1. Stock kindle 3.4 firmware or
2. 3.4 Kindle firmware with jailbreak

Also is it possible to use Kubrick to flash a different downloaded firmware, eg 3.0.2 to a Kindle Keyboard (v3)?

Images are already jail broken.

Only if you can find a complete image file on the 'net.
Those machines only received incremental updates, not complete image updates.

Keep in mind, only the most recent 3.x firmware can connect on the Internet.

I want to keep my ebook formats in oldest AZW formats possible so I can also export them for Calibre. Do you know if any of the 3.x versions reduce the ability to do this?

3.4.2 (or whatever is current now) already provides you with that dis-feature.
The K3 was never updated to handle the newer book formats.

As to kubrick on a kindle 3 also jailbreaking the device, I have found this NOT to be the case and I had to also apply kindle-jailbreak-0.13.N.zip to avoid Signature Verification Failed errors.
