Glo HD has rendering issue for some character.

Rosarivo font is not display properly.

I got new font from Google fonts called Rasarivo.
I love this font, but "j" is not display as I expected on my device (Glo HD).
Only small "j" is not clear like other characters.
I tried to change readingFontSharpness and readingFontWeight.
But there is no big difference.

I attached my screenshot.
If there is someone who know about it, please let me know.

Where did you download the font from?

I downloaded this one and it seems okay, I didn't see any problem with the little 'j' character on my Glo in the few minutes I tried it.

Edit: An unrelated problem with this font is that it uses a non-standard name 'lig' for the ligature substitution tables, so ligatures won't work in the ePub reader until you change the name to 'liga'.

Thank you for reply, GeoffR.
I tried font what you test.
It also same for me.
I don't know if this rendering is right or not, but for me it doesn't looks good.
I attached another pictures. Please take a look in main question.

It doesn't look quite right to me either. In your photos the curve at the foot of the j looks jagged, but on my Glo it looks smooth. I don't know what could cause the difference, unless you are using a really tiny font size it should look a lot better on your 300dpi Glo HD than on my 212dpi Glo.

Edit: In the second set of photos you added it might be okay, it is just hard to tell how large the font size is without seeing the whole screen in the photo. If that is a very small font size with a high sharpness setting then it is probably okay. It is really the second photo of the first set that looks strange.

I've attached screenshots from my Glo for comparison, this is in the ePub reader with weight/sharpness at the default settings. (see word 'just' at bottom right.)

It doesn't matter for size of font.
I tried big font, just "j" was not applied anti-aliasing.

It seems like a nice font, aside from the badly rendered 'j'. I notice there are no bold sets. How does that display on on e-ink screen? And is there a version with the ligature problem corrected?

if you are looking for a font with all possibilities give libre-franklin a try and see what you think, it as bold semibold black thin etc.

it look's especially good on the original Aura 6"

best wishes koboy

Yes that is very strange, it is clear in your screenshot that the body of the 'j' has no anti-aliasing but the dot does. In the screenshot from my Glo the 'j' is anti-aliased the same as the other letters.

I see you are using the KePub reader, while my screenshot was from the ePub reader. Another difference could be the weight/sharpness setting, mine is at the default setting.

But for only the 'j' to be affected it seems like there must be domething different about that glyph in the font itself. Maybe it is something that can be fixed in fontforge.

You are right.
I tried ePub instead of KePub. It is okay.
Then is there something I can do?
(I want to use KePub)
Please let me know.

I checked the font in the KePub reader on my Glo and the anti-aliasing of the 'j' seems to be okay. I am using firmware 4.3.8966, what verion are you using?

I'm also using 4.3.8966(9c8144b8c0, 3/14/17).
Then KePub doens't explain why my device has problem.

Have you deleted the font from your Kobo and redownloaded it? Also, when you add in the font, don'tforget to reboot.

Actually, I tried to Factory Reset.
But it didn't help.
Small "j" is not anti-aliased after reset.

I tried everything.
My last try was change file name: xxx.kepub.epub to xxx.epub
After change it, epub file rendering properly.
If file name is "xxx.kepub.epub" is not applied anti-aliasing.
I don't know why my KePub reader has problem even if I did Factory Reset.

Have you tried using Calibre to convert from ePub to Kepub instead of just an extension change? The conversion does more than just switch renderers.

I changed KePub from ePub using Calibre.
But when I change filename KePub which was converted using Calibre to ePub, it is showing "j" with anti-aliasing.
Even I tried old version of firmware.
I have no idea at all.
