Security on Kobo Accounts
When is Kobo going to address this issue? I have a lot invested in my Kobo library and currently if I lose my eReader or it grts stolen, my account is completely accessible to anyone.

In any case, can you tell us what the problem is? I can think of two things, but I don't want to mention them in case I scare you even more ![]() |

I think this is question-response spam. I think the OP is the first part of question-response spam. Last edited by Nate the great; 02-16-2017 at 06:32 PM. |

If you lose your Kobo, you log in from elsewhere and change your password. Problem solved. If someone went nuts downloading $500 worth of books before you got to log in and do a password change, call Kobo and explain. If it still worries you that much, don't buy your books through the reader. Instead just use a different email for the reader where there's no credit card or personal information attached just for logging in purposes only through the reader. Purchase all your books through your PC only on a different email account and sideload them onto your Kobo reader (which is what I do, mostly because I want them all in one location to put on various readers). Problem solved before it even gets started. I don't see that Kobo is any more or less lax about security if you lose your reader than any other reader or device or your personal belongings. What else do you think Kobo can or should do if you're careless and lose your reader? |

password protection for when you turn the e-reader on would be a nice option to have.

Sorry if you think so. But, that was my reaction to the posts. If the OP had given any details about what security problem there was, I would have responded with any information I had. But, as I had no idea what they were talking about, all I could ask for was more details. Maybe I shouldn't have commented on what I considered an inconsistency, but an answer might have helped to understand where the OP was coming from.

I agree. if you lose your Kobo, log in ASAP and change your password. First, if you lose your Kobo, it then has to be found and whoever finds it has to decide to try to use it to get eBooks using your account. If it's stolen, chances are the person stealing it thought it was a Kindle. So really, I don't see this to be much of an issue.

Logging in and changing your password wont do a blessed thing. The Kobo stays logged in, with purchasing power.
Should you lose your kobo, or if it's stolen, login and remove your credit card info. Then call or contact Kobo, they should be able to blacklist the device since they'll have access to the serial number. |

Are you saying that you can change the password & log out of the account and the Reader will still be logged in and able to browse the store? |
