Manga Page Turn Question

Hi everyone,

Want to ask about the page turn on H2O readers, can I assign page turn of manga files to right to left? It'd be reverse instead of right going forward and left backward. Couldn't see anything about this on the web so I thought I'd ask here.

Also How do you guys handle/like reading manga on H2O and what software would you recommend for beginners to make manga readable in H2O? I'm planning on using Kindle Comic Converter but open to other suggestions.

I ordered a H2O recently and it hasn't arrived yet so I don't know how it'll look since it's my first ereader. At first I was going to buy Aura ONE because of bigger screen but decided not to as soon as I saw that there wasn't any SD card slot. Also I think blue power button looks ugly compared to H2O back so I decided on H2O, I think screen size can work even if it's not as big as Aura ONE it's much better than PW, also PW don't come with extra 32 GB of manga space. Anyways thanks already since this forum helped me decide on it the most.

EDIT: I just saw that there is a manga mode on KCC, sorry for the whole new thread, you can delete if you want.

The Kobo firmware respects the reading direction of most formats. If you set this to RTL in the book, then the page turning is right-to-left. I would guess this is what KCC is doing for it's manga mode, but I haven't looked when I have opened the books it generates.

Thanks for the answer, I got the H2O today and the screen is fantastic, also you can pick the page turn bottom/top instead of left/right and I like it that way better.

If anyone is willing to guide me I want to ask another thing here without making a new thread. Can I see manga and ebooks on seperate folders instead of all being in the library together? I'd like better foldering options if possible but even seperating the comics and books would be great.

You can create Collections and place content into them for easier browsing specific.

1. From the Home screen, click Library in the lower left corner.
2. From the Library menu, click My collections.
3. From the new window, click Create a collection.
4. From the Create new collection window, enter a name, and click Next.
5. From the Add books to collection window, click the plus sign next to the content you want in to the collection.
6. Finally, click Create to finish up.

Thank you, it works like a charm. My only complain would be that I have to update it every time I put something instead of putting cbz in a folder named Manga and seeing it in the Manga collection directly. But I see that'd be a stretch since this is not a manga reading device. Still it's great for it, much better than I expected.

Depending on how you get your Manga content to your H2O, you could also consider using Calibre to manage your collections. This Wiki article talks about how to set up a process in Calibre to autopopulate content into Kobo collections.

Note: Kobo used to call them shelves, and I think you can use 'mycollections' instead.

I haven't tried it myself, but it is on my list of things to do with my Kobo.

I just put cbz to Manga folder in 32 gb sd card, put the first one with Calibre but all those steps seemed unnecessary.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm going to be the first to suggest you give KOReader a try, because I think it's a far superior experience for manga and comics.
Disable "Scroll Mode", set Zoom mode to "fit content width", and optionally view it in landscape. The newer nightlies even have a manual "read from right to left" option, which I'm guessing would do what you want.

With this setup I never have to do any processing, such as using KCC.

Since my manga are all in picture files, I just zipped them by volume, add into Calibre so I can populate the details and transfer to H20 via usb. The things I need to do is

1) Cut double spread into 2 separate pages as I find trying to zoom double spread on H20 quite a pain.
2) Make sure the first page is not a double page if not the orientation on H20 would be landscape and I would ended up having to scroll subsequent single pages just to view the page in completion or flip them to portrait.
3) Make sure the zip file does not contain any other format than picture format as Calibre cannot convert them to cbz if there's any when added to the library.

I used to think I needed to use KCC or similar converter but in actual fact I don't. All I need is Calibre, set up the collection/bookshelves and transfer the metadata using Kobo Extended Drive Plugin.

I really like KCC since it handles spread pages well and formats whole manga for H2O, since I don't zoom in ever I don't need anything bigger than what H2O needs resolution wise, also it changes everything to B&W so both of it cuts some space, especially for big folders. Also even when you zoom in it's not pixely or anything after KCC resize.

My complaints so far are

H2O not detecting the folders so you have to manually categorize them one way or another and it gets boring after some time, that's my number one complaint and I don't want to change the software from what's original so idk if they'll fix it.

Also when you put lots of manga files it gets slightly slow on certain things, nothing like stucking or whatever yet, it's sorta noticeable and not that big of a deal because it doesn't affect the page turn speed, it's just bit slower than before when opening collections. I mean I don't expect it to have lightning fast response when I put 10gigs of manga, but I wouldn't like it if it got worse with more and more files, which doesn't seem to be so just wanted to tell if anyone expecting to read manga looks at this thread.

And lastly about the device itself, it's bit heavy, I can handle it just fine and bigger screen is great for reading manga but I think a weaker female or kid might not like to hold it after some time. I think ipad mini is lighter and even if the difference is not that much you notice the weight right away.

So far no deal breakers tho, I really love the screen and reading book/manga on it.
