LubimyCzytac - Version 2.4.3 (2026.10.16)

LubimyCzytac is a Polish website similar to Goodreads. Although the plugin interface is also available in English, the website is only in Polish. For that reason, this plugin will be of most use for Polish readers.

This plugin uses LubimyCzytac.pl as a metadata source.

It was based on the Barnes & Noble plugin.

It is made generally for searching polish books. Actually it is useless otherwise - lubimyczytac.pl has polish books only in its database.
I've written this, because non-polish sites do not support searching without diaktrics (means: ‘ą’, ‘ę’, ‘ł’ and all that stuff). On the other hand - title and author parsed from filename usually lacks polish diaktrics. As an effect you must manually complete it before searching for metadata.

Using this plugin you can find for example:

Special Notes:

• Requires calibre 3.41.0 or higher.
• Recommended to set up before the first use.

Known issues / to do:

• Plugin is developed for years, but can be buggy still. Please report any errors you’ve found.
• Sometimes Lubimyczytac.pl website is working slowly, occurs delay/timeout. If you found a timeout problem please configure the plugin to max 3 search.
• The covers on the Lubimyczytac site are low resolution (max. 352x500px).

Installation Notes:

• Download the attached zip file and install the plugin as described in the Introduction to plugins thread.
• Note that this is not a GUI plugin so it is not intended/cannot be added to context menus/toolbars etc.
• Customise other options from the Metadata download configuration screen ("Configure download metadata" button).

Fixed: An explicitly supplied lubimyczytac identifier (typed in, pasted with the clipboard button or set by the 'Zmień wydanie LC' helper plugin) now takes precedence over 'Prefer matching ISBN'. Previously a stale ISBN left in calibre made the ISBN check switch the result back to the old edition, undoing the user's choice.
Changed: The manual-search hint now explains the easiest way to set the identifier: copy the address of the edition page and click the clipboard button next to the Identifiers field.

Added: The optional 'Suggest a manual search when nothing is found' setting (disabled by default). When LubimyCzytac does not know the title, the plugin adds a virtual result whose description contains links to a Google and DuckDuckGo search limited to lubimyczytac.pl, a link to the LubimyCzytac search and instructions for the lubimyczytac:<ID> identifier. Pages of editions published under another title are indexed by web search engines even though the LubimyCzytac search engine does not return them.
Added: The plugin now recognises whether it was started from the single-book download window or from bulk download (by inspecting the calibre worker's main thread) and writes the mode to the log. The virtual result above is added only in the single-book window; bulk download would apply it to the book without asking.
Changed: The list of editions (/ksiazka/wydania/<ID>) is downloaded only when the book page shows the 'Other editions' button and only when a setting needs it ('Prefer matching ISBN', full or short list of other editions). Until 2.4.1 it was downloaded for every candidate regardless of settings, and twice when both the ISBN check and a list were enabled; now once per candidate.
Changed: 'Prefer matching ISBN' checks editions with the same title as the found book first and stops after 20 edition pages or 60 seconds, keeping the original result. The list of editions carries no ISBN, so each edition means another page download; 'Pan Tadeusz' has 108 editions and a single download used to take a quarter of an hour, after which calibre dropped the job without showing the log.
Added: An overall time limit for a single identify run (150 seconds). After it the plugin sends no further search queries and stops waiting for the page downloads still in progress, returning what has been collected so far, together with the log. Calibre kills the download worker after 300 seconds and the log is lost with it; with LubimyCzytac responding very slowly a single page could keep a download running for a quarter of an hour.
Added: With the LUBIMYCZYTAC_DEBUG=1 environment variable the whole identify log is also written to plugins/lubimyczytac-debug.log in the calibre configuration folder, so it survives a download that calibre aborts.
Added: Tests for the manual-search hint (tests/test_hint.py) and for the editions handling (tests/test_editions.py).

Fixed: An exact title match now takes precedence over a partial one regardless of the order on the LubimyCzytac results page. 'Cała prawda o planecie Ksi' no longer resolves to the collection 'Cała prawda o planecie Ksi. Drugie spojrzenie na planetę Ksi', which LubimyCzytac lists first.
Changed: Collected editions (titles listing several works separated by semicolons, or 'KSIĄŻKI WYBRANE: ...') that merely contain the searched title are treated as weak candidates instead of strong matches, so they no longer end the search with 'Fast matching'.
Changed: Results matching neither the title nor the author are no longer returned as a last resort. When LubimyCzytac does not know the title at all, the plugin reports no results instead of four random books (and skips four page downloads).
Fixed: Leading zeros in numbers no longer break title matching ('Moje szczęśliwe małżeństwo #04' in calibre vs '#4' on LubimyCzytac).
Fixed: A dot inside an abbreviation or initials ('cz.1', 'J.R.R.', 'Philip K. Dick') is no longer treated as a subtitle separator; it used to produce pointless extra queries such as 'Hobb 1'.
Changed: With 'Fast matching' disabled, candidates are ordered: exact title, partial title, weak matches. Previously the last strong match found ended up first.

Added: The optional 'Prefer matching ISBN' setting (disabled by default). When enabled and calibre supplies an ISBN, the plugin looks for an exact ISBN match among the editions of the initially selected book and switches to that edition; otherwise the original result is kept. The check stops at the first exact match and is skipped when the initially selected edition already matches.
Added: The diagnostic parsing report can be enabled with the LUBIMYCZYTAC_DEBUG=1 environment variable, without editing the code.
Changed: Search strategy rewritten. The plugin tries several query variants in turn (author + full title, author + title before/after the separator, title only) and stops at the first result matching both title and author; a result matching only the title no longer ends the search. This covers titles like 'Series. Title', where LubimyCzytac lists only the part after the dot as the title.
Changed: Author matching also accepts a matching surname (initials written differently in calibre and LC, e.g. 'J. R. R. Tolkien' vs 'J.R.R. Tolkien') and now works with the 'Last Name First Name' option.
Changed: After the candidate pages are downloaded, candidates whose full author list does not contain the author from calibre are dropped. The search results page shows at most two authors, so anthologies used to produce several candidates.
Changed: Search candidates keep their relevance order instead of being sorted alphabetically by URL.
Changed: Lists of other editions: the full list is parsed more reliably, the short list is built from the actual titles instead of URL slugs, keeps Polish diacritics and merges duplicates differing only by HTML entities or spacing.

Nowa wtyczka pomocnicza: wybierzcie swoje wydanie z listy

Wtyczka LubimyCzytac potrafi od wersji 2.4.x pobrać dokładnie to wydanie, które stoi na półce – ale trzeba jej je wskazać: numerem ISBN albo identyfikatorem lubimyczytac, czyli numerem ze strony książki na LC (np. lubimyczytac:74063). Czasem nie ma pod ręką ani jednego, ani drugiego, a lista wydań na LC ma kilkadziesiąt pozycji. „Zmień wydanie LC” to mały dodatek do wtyczki LubimyCzytac, który załatwia to jednym przyciskiem: pokazuje wszystkie wydania książki z okładkami, klikacie w swoje, a metadane tego wydania pobierają się od razu.

1. Co robi

• Dodaje przycisk Zmień wydanie do okna edycji metadanych pojedynczej książki (na dole, obok OK i Anuluj). Nic więcej w calibre nie zmienia – żadnych nowych ikon na paskach.
• Po kliknięciu pokazuje wszystkie wydania tej książki w LubimyCzytać, z okładkami. Obecne wydanie jest oznaczone, audiobooki również.
• Po zaznaczeniu wydania pod listą pojawiają się wydawca, data wydania, ISBN i liczba stron – przydatne, gdy pięć wydań ma tę samą okładkę.
• Po zatwierdzeniu podmienia identyfikator lubimyczytac na wybrane wydanie i pyta, czy od razu pobrać jego metadane. „Tak” robi to samo, co przycisk „Pobierz metadane”, tylko bez szukania – wtyczka LubimyCzytac bierze dokładnie wskazaną stronę: okładkę, wydawcę, rok, liczbę stron, ISBN.

2. Jak używać – trzy kliknięcia

1. Otwórzcie edycję metadanych książki, która ma identyfikator lubimyczytac (ma go każda książka z metadanymi pobranymi z LC). Jeśli go nie ma, skopiujcie z przeglądarki adres strony książki na LC i wklejcie go przyciskiem ze schowkiem obok pola „Identyfikatory” – przycisk „Zmień wydanie” od razu się uaktywni. Bez identyfikatora jest szary, a podpowiedź mówi, czego brakuje.
2. Kliknijcie „Zmień wydanie” i wybierzcie swoje wydanie (OK albo podwójne kliknięcie).
3. Potwierdźcie pobranie metadanych. Gotowe.

3. Drobiazgi, które robią różnicę

• Calibre się nie zawiesza: lista wydań pobiera się w tle, z paskiem postępu i przyciskiem Anuluj, a okładki doładowują się po kolei już w otwartym oknie. Nawet „Pan Tadeusz” z ponad setką wydań nie blokuje programu.
• Jeśli książka ma w LC tylko jedno wydanie, nie dostaniecie pustego okna – tylko krótki komunikat.
• Pozostałe identyfikatory (ISBN, Goodreads i inne) zostają na miejscu; podmieniany jest tylko lubimyczytac.

4. Warto wiedzieć

• Wymaga calibre 6.0 lub nowszego i zainstalowanej wtyczki LubimyCzytac (najlepiej aktualnej).
• Działa w oknie edycji metadanych pojedynczej książki – nie przy masowym pobieraniu.

5. Pobieranie i instalacja
Paczka jest w załączniku do tego posta. Instaluje się jak każdą wtyczkę: Preferencje → Wtyczki → Wczytaj wtyczkę z pliku, potem restart calibre. Po restarcie nie szukajcie nowej ikony – przycisk zobaczycie dopiero w oknie edycji metadanych.

To pierwsze publiczne wydanie tej wtyczki, więc tym bardziej liczę na Wasze uwagi. Jeśli coś nie zadziała, napiszcie, o którą książkę chodzi (link do strony na LC) i co dokładnie się stało.

It looks that the plugin does not work any more. There are no search results from LubimyCzytac when you edit metadata in Calibre. It neither shows book descriptions nor covers.
