Bulk MDE - Change Cover
If one sets one of the Change Cover radio buttons there's seems to be no way to unset it other than to set it to another one, or Cancel.
I discovered this when I pressed (Alt+R) too many times and reached the Remove cover option, in getting back to Remove tags, I must have 'pressed' the radio button (space). So after pressed OK I discovered all the covers had gone. Assuming there is no way to clear the radio buttons, once one of them is set, then: A) should the Change cover label have a check box that 'activates' the radio button zone, and/or B) should there be an "Are you sure" message when OK is pressed and Remove covers is set. Fortunately it was my test library so I was able recover quick enough from last nights backup. As a rule I don't keep covers in format files, so set from ebook file isn't an an option, besides not all formats have embedded covers (e.g. podcasts of radio book readings). BR |

That's just the way radio buttons work in Qt, unsetting all of them would require an extra radio button named "No action" or the like. I'm not convinced this is worth the screen real estate, since you can just cancel instead. As for having a confirmation for remove covers -- all the operations in the bulk metadata dialog are dangerous -- generate default cover would also destroy all existing covers, as would set from ebook file if the ebook files have generic covers, as would clone covers. For that matter, non cover operations such as setting rating or author also destroy information, that is essentially the nature of the beast.

The only radio button that has a non ambiguous accelerator key is Clone (alt+c).
So how about a compromise - number the radio buttons 1-5 and make the digits the accelerator keys. Then they won't be accidentally reached via one too many alt+r, alt+g, alt+t or alt+e sequences. This wasn't the first time this happened to me. But previously I spotted the radio button had been set before pressing Enter (OK), so I could hit Escape (Cancel) and start over. This time I missed it. BR |
