Location of Kindle .mobi books in device storage

I need to find all my .mobi books purchased from Kindle in my Android tablet
They are in the tablet, in the Cloud and ( some ) in my PC. and I can read them, but I cannot see them in the storage file system. NOWHERE, as I used to. I really need to retrieve the file , not to open the book.


From a previous now closed thread I see that people have found them in SdCard( or extSDCard) Android/Data/com.amazon.kindle/files. This is where I always looked for and found them. Not any longer now.

What is puzzling is that even the very few I could see until a few days ago have all disappeared from the tablet storage, even if, strangely, I can read them..So they must be there, somewhere..
Somebody hinted that there are other ways to retrieve them.Can anybody tell me how? I wasted a week on this!


Also, somebody in the previous, now closed thread, mentioned a " show hidden files "option in Es File Manage. How can I check and activate this option, if necessary?

It is really baffling how complicated Kindle Amazon make things when it comes to download the books to the device. Sometimes I have the impression that these books have a life of their own and they jump almost erratically from one location to another, from device to device , probably remote controlled..

I'm not sure of the current file path (although I believe it changed quite a few app versions ago) but I'm sure someone here will know. If you just want to book file with minimum fuss why not just download it from the Amazon website directly?

Because you cannot do that unless you own a kindle e-ink device. The OP doesn't have one.

Both my Fire 7 and HDX tablets are listed for USB download as well (not just my eInk Kindle's). Guess I thought that meant they'd be available for the Android app as well.



@Ittiandro, I found a thread on another forum from a few weeks ago (end of December), but it looks like they were using the same path that isn't working for you now...

Go to my files on your tablet. Tap the magnifying class. Type mobi. Tap the enter key.
Make sure you are showing all.

The USB download option does not allow you to download a file for any of the apps: PC, Mac, iOS or Android.

It supports e-ink kindles and (as you pointed out) it also supports Fire tablets. However the OP doesn't have a Fire tablet and even if he did the DRM Tools do not support it so the resulting file would be of no use to him.

One of the features of newer Kindles apps and firmware is the automatic replacement of existing books on the device in the older MOBI or KF8 format with the KFX equivalent. It is likely that the MOBI files that you found before are no longer present on the device. Look instead for files with a .kfx extension.

Edit: If the older formats still does exist on your device the files on the Android app will have a ".prc" extension. Amazon uses different file extensions for the same format (and sometimes the same extension for different formats) in different products.
