Keyboard Shortcut to Open Sigil
Hello
![]() I used the F12 key to open sigil from within Calibre. Suddenly, it's not working (why??) and it's been setup so long this way that I can't remember how to get it back. I've searched and been trying to sort this for ages. Are the keyboard shortcuts stored in a file?? Appreciate any help. Thank you Update: I found this "], "Interface Action: Open With (Open With) : menu action : EPUBSigil (EPUB)": [ "F12"" in the "main.json" in my settings folder. SHould this mean the shortcut should still work? Last edited by Chris_Snow; 12-16-2016 at 08:45 PM. Reason: Update: |

I've since discovered the "Open With" plug-in. It is installed within calibre. I don't seem to be getting a context menu with it. I have removed and re-installed this plug-in, rebooted both calibre and machine, and it still isn't working. Very odd. Also, when I click "CUstomise PLug-in, I keep getting a dialof to "Restart Calibre" Even if I do, I keep getting that dialog.
I am still running version 1.48 (I think) as I'm still on XP. |

I run 2.0 (my system was one that ran fine) before Kovid pulled XP from the qualified OS list in the installer. The Open With Plugin by Kiwidude, runs fine. Newer versions of Calibre have a Calibre 'open with' option. be sure to use the instructions in the Plugins sub-forum and not the Calibre Manual |

Thanks "theducks"
What I don't understand is that it was working fine. I haven't updated Calibre in ages, and it was working the last time I used it to tweak a book (less than two weeks ago). Not sure why it would suddenly stop working! |

Firewall, A/V get daily updates Windows Update touches XP things just about every week Flash ![]() Firefox, Notepad++ the list never stops ![]() You could open the Calibre Configuration Folder: Plugins: and rename (to .sav) the openwith.json then launch Calibre again Settings are almost never purged when uninstalling a PI. they must be manually removed |

I did find an OpenWith.zip in the calibre plugins folder. I renamed that, re-installed, and still nothing. I keep getting a "Restart Calibre" dialog when I try and use the "Customise Plugin" button in Perferences. I cannot find any menu item that points to Openwith - but it is listed under plugins. It would seem that something killed it and it is not coming back anytime soon :! |

@Chris_Snow - my Open with for Sigil (shift+'S') stopped working shortly after Kovid gave calibre it's own Open With in Version 2.21. I cursed, but soon discovered it was it was entirely my own doing. I had upgraded Sigil to a later version - and unwittingly from 32 to 64 bit so the path was wrong in the PI customisation.
But I took the opportunity of trying the new built in Open With, it works more like an OS Open With (but better, than Windows at least), where you configure each file type (format) separately. Below you see my Open With list for ePUBs, all I had to do was to point calibre at the relevant programs. The built in version doesn't suit everyone because there's no "Open With" toolbar button to click. But if you're not into clicking toolbar icons it's worth a try. Some folks use the Open with PI as an arbitrary program launcher, but I discovered that I wasn't doing anything with the Open with PI that I couldn't do just as readily with the built in Open With so I removed the PI.. And that eliminated my confusion of having Open With and Open with choices in Preferences->Keyboard. A single letter case switch is far too subtle for me ![]() BR |

Preferences: Plugins is the ONLY 'proper way' of uninstalling a PI as it removes the 'hooks' into Calibre. Updating a 'Hooked' PI might not re create the (supposedly) EXISTING settings files Menu Items are Controlled by: Preferences: Look and Feel: Toolbars Restart Calibre message happens when settings change that need Calibre to Re-Read startup files (eg Which PI to load, Keyboard shortcuts) I mainly use the PI with Hot Keys (Alt-E was the original default, but that same Keystroke was assigned to OW in Calibre Version found in later 2.X) Who knows ![]() |

![]() I suggest you remove the plugin via Preferences->Plugins->Remove plugins and then MOVE the Open With.json file from the plugins folder of the calibre configuration directory to your desktop. Then reinstall the plugin via Preferences->Plugins->Get new plugins and do the Restart. I would then remove the items from the PI's default list that I don't need and then add/configure the items I do need, perhaps using the json file I saved to the desktop as a guide, don't copy and paste from it as it may be the cause of your problems. I use Alt+E for 'elp. Too easy to hit F1 when I want F2, so I always remove/disable F1 keys ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 12-17-2016 at 03:45 PM. |

Nothing had any effect. The "Restart Calibre" dialog box was the first thing I noticed after realising openwith wasn't working. This happened using the "Customise Plugin" button under Preferences>Plugins. Seems something has killed the plugin?? One day I'll upgrade, but my 10 year old pc running Xp is fantastic. Can't say the same about my wife's 2 year old pc running win 10. Both hardware and software dramas! Doesn't inspire me to upgrade! ![]() |
