Kobo Aura One VS Aura H20

I am interested in buying a Kobo and have been looking at these two devices and looking for advice for those that have possibly used both.

I am considering getting the H20 instead of the Aura One because the H20 appears better. The screen on the Aura One is an inch larger but the dpi is much lower. Also the H20 supports microsd.

Has anyone who has owned them found this not to be the case?

Kobo Aura ONE: 300dpi
Kobo Aura H2O: 265dpi

The H2O has a "flap" thing at the bottom that you need to open and close every time you plug the reader in or access the SD card slot. It feels quite flimsy - I'm not fond of it. The ONE has the micro USB cable socket with no required flap thingy to cover it up.

The ONE has no SD card slot, but its 8GB memory is double that of most readers.

The H2O has a raised bezel while the ONE's screen is flush with the bezel. I like flush screens but the raised bezel gives it a more rugged feel, in that if you drop it, the screen can't scratch off of the ground. Other people may not agree with me on that.

I don't know which one is better. I have both and I don't think I could choose which one I prefer. I'd say the H2O is better to carry around because of said ruggedness and because of its smaller size. The ONE is more beautiful and elegant - thinner AND larger - so it feels a bit delicate for me... which is part of why I'm so hesitant to install Koreader (I prefer this firmware for reading certain file types, but it is ugly)

Aura One = Capacitive Touch
Aura H2O = IR Touch

Makes a difference to some people, no difference to others.

More words/page = fewer page turns on the One. It's also a bit lighter = easier to hold for a long time. The screen and lighting on my One is excellent, and I like the Kobo case.

I had an H2O from launch until a couple of months ago. It worked perfectly and I really liked it, no negatives at all. I've now got the KA1, mainly because everyone was saying how great screen is, but also because of the flush screen which I much prefer. To be honest, both are excellent readers, the best I have owned, and there have been many over the years! I would agree with Braid's post, the H2O appears more solid, being slightly smaller and with raised bezels and the screen is excellent. The KA1 also has a beautiful screen, and is slightly lighter despite the screen being larger. For reading on the beach, I prefer the KA1 as sand doesn't get stuck in the bezel and block the IR touch, but the slightly smaller H2O may feel more portable.

True for reflowable stuff.

IIRC the OP is going to be using it for PDF's (from mention in his other threads), for which I'd think the One's larger screen size might also be better.

You have that wrong, the Aura One has more dpi (which is better) than the H2O. Aura One 300dpi, H2O: 265dpi. I have an H2O and at that dpi I can't see any pixelation on any font.

This and what Braid said cover most of the differences. I don't care about the night lighting so the screens are about the same to me other than size. I find the H2O sooo small when I use it now, but I was very happy with it until I had the KA1. Battery life is shorter on the KA1 (smaller battery and bigger screen) and it's not quite as responsive in the menu's and UI (not an issue for just reading). Personally I'd like my IR touch back, but I'm not willing to give up the screen real estate to get it.

I didn't have an H20, but an H2O, but I prefer the One. I loved the H2O, but I like the bigger screen of the One better.

Yes, the H2O supports microSD, but I never used it. The DPI you've been wrongly informed about.

I gave my H2O to my mother, as I really liked the device and felt sad it wasn't used anymore by me. And as my mother still only had the Sony PRS650, it's a huge stepup for her, for about every single thing.

It seems there are lot of reports about the uneven color screen of One. And do they fix the bugs of One yet?

I don't think you can tell the difference of One and H2O ppi by just looking.

I love my H2O. It has a perfect screen for me. Its screen is even better than my kindle voyage, which has 300ppi.

actually kobo aura one has almost the exact same weight as H2O, it just feels lighter because of the weightdistribution over bigger surface.

Plus my Aura ONE has some extra weight added from the water I poured into the micro USB socket.

I think they sacrifice the battery to have a lighter weight.

I'm having problem with the underlining in epub books with Tolino Vision 4hd. It's very imprecise and irresponsive and slow. And I was told that an IR screen should be more responsive.
Could any of you tell me if it's so? Is the h2o more responsive and fast and precise in underlining and possibly also in turning pages, than the KA1?
And could somebody compare H2O and H2O 2nd Edition? I really like the SD slot in the 1st edition, and don't care about the 30 grams more, but I ignore of the 2nd edition added something important which I should not lose. I can live with 8gb and just move back to HDD what I've read well.
The most important for me is to find an e-reader which is really really very fast and precise and responsive to touch. I underline a lot, and take lot of notes.
I have chosen an e-reader because i need lot of battery autonomy, and a close to real paper experience (tablets and PC ruined my eyes a lot in the last years).
So, a tablet is NOT an option.

Price is not a problem. I don't have money to waste at all. But I need things to work the way I want. And I'll pay what I have to pay. The Tolino is driving me so crazy that I'm about to smash it in pieces.
If the new kindle Oasis is the fastest reader, I would go for it, but I'm worried about if I would lose something in the conversion from epub to Mobi. I don't mind to have less fonts, but I read about worse rendering of images in Mobi?

Any help appreciated!

If you are doing a lot of annotations, then I doubt you will be happy with any of the Kobo devices. Annotations work, and work well, but the accuracy of the touch and speed of the devices means that you have to be careful.

As to IR vs capacitive, I don't think there is any real difference on the Kobo devices. Comparing the Aura ONE to my other devices, I find it about the same for accuracy and speed of annnotations.

You will lose something if you convert to MOBI. If you go to Kindle, use one of the newer formats. I don't use a Kindle, so I don't know what is the best choice.
