G'day from Australia.

For the last 2 days I have read nothing but this site. I found it in a response from google for info about the new Kobo Aura One. I have had a Sony PRS650 since 2010, and when it became apparent that the battery was dying, I organised to have the battery replaced, but because it was taking so long to happen, I started to investigate the new Aura One. This site has opened up a complete new planet for me with devices, words, ideas and how to do things that I didn't know existed. Being an old girl with no computer skills whatsoever,(I get by just doing what I know and that's pretty much how to buy from Kobo, download to Sony book library then transfer to my Reader). Oh, and Facebook. And navigate my iPad.
Thank you very much for accepting me to your site. Clare.
P.S. I hope to do a 400km round trip tomorrow to collect my Aura One, if it arrives in store.

Welcome! Given the length of your trip, have you had a good look at the quality control issues some here have experienced with the hot-off-the-presses Aura Ones? Then you can have a good inspection of your device in-store, and not leave unless you're sure that it's up to scratch, particularly the lighting colour.

The beauty of this site, in my experience (mostly with the Kobo subforums), is the willingness of very knowledgeable people to walk you through any issues, and any tweaks you want to do. It can be confusing at first, but following instructions step by step will get you there.

Thank you, Meeera for your words of encouragement. We managed to get my reader after a bit of excitement in the traffic of the big smoke, being hicks from the sticks. I thought about checking it before I left the shop, however, I was so stirred up that I figured that we could face the traffic once again if I had a problem.

It works really well, in my opinion, I think it's perfect. Easy to use, turns pages well, battery life appears ok, bearing in mind that I have been downloading books. No funny colours, no light spots, I am happy. But then you have to
remember that I only have an old Sony for comparison.

I had no trouble downloading books I had purchased from Kobo and the books I had purchased from a couple of other sources, that Kobo took over. My problem is other purchased books where the sites have gone out of business. These books are all on the Sony reader library, but when I try to transfer them they come up with Annot ePub and they don't transfer over. I will have to wait for my son-in-law to visit and see if he can do any good.

I believe it is possible but I can't do it and don't have any friends with ereaders who know how to do it either. When we all get together, it's the blind leading the blind. :thanks. 😀

Should be no problem. If you don't understand something, just post a question and one of our addicts, er, I mean dedicated members will quickly help.

That's great that your reader is pleasing you!

For future reference - it's worth having a look around and working out how to download epubs and strip DRM immediately after purchase. Then you can keep your freed library in Calibre and not have stores take access away from you. As an aside, if you haven't already, check out how to set up Calibre to manage Collections (shelves) on your Kobo for you.
