Breaking down authors list

My ebook collection is growing rather large and the number of authors is approaching 800. Is there a way to further break down my authors list, so that rather than having only A-Z, Calibre will break letters with a lot of entries into smaller chunks? Aa-Am, An-Az etc.

Preferences->Look & Feel->Tag Browser->Category partitioning method

change it to partitioned instead of first letter, then you can specify the size of the groups yourself.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't notice that there was a drop-down box there. Might I make a feature request, to add a "Partitioned By First Letter" option?
What would be ideal for me is an alphabetical view, which would show the divisions when opened.
Something like this:

A
- Aa-Am
- An-Az
B
C
- Ca-Cg
- Ch-Cr
- Cs-Cz
D

If this is possible, please let me know.

I certainly can't complain, and I know the number of special requests like this are probably a nuisance to you. I appreciate everything you have done. As far as I'm concerned, Calibre is the only way to organize my library.

Preferences: Look and Feel: Tag Browser: (2 settings)

Tags browser: :by First letter (pulldown)
Collapse when more than: (15 is default)

I must be missing something then. No matter how I set these settings, I can only get authors sorted by letter or broken down into perfect sized chunks.

No! it is one or the other.
I hate the break point and had asked Kovid if the boundaries could only be at letter changes Ab, Ad... ant not bridge 2 groups.

No can do was the reply.

Damn. It just gets a bit annoying, as out of 800 authors, 110 of them begin with S.
Maybe some day in the future.
