Fire of the Andes by author and noted filksinger Juanita Coulson (ISFDB, Wikipedia, Science Fiction Encyclopedia) is her standalone historical fantasy with strong f/m romantic elements, set in the post-conquest world of the Incas in Peru in the 16th century, featuring a woman of half-Spanish conquistador and Incan royal descent with the obligatory Very Special Destiny to save the land (probably for a very limited time, considering the actual history (Wikipedia), but eh, this is a fantasy version) and the usual scheming and maneuvering all around as a game greater than she'd ever suspected is being played, free courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint, who are e-printing it from its 1979 edition originally out from Ballantine Books.

This seems to have been originally published as an historical romance with fantasy elements but is being re-marketed as a romantic historical fantasy, since the author is better known for her sfnal work, and this has one of those epic destiny with political maneuvering sorts of plots like her similar-sounding Babylonian one we've received in the past.

Because sfnal freebies are always a welcome treat, and it's nice to see Endeavour continuing to bring back into print even the more obscure not-quite-in-genre works of sf/fantasy authors at affordable prices, which I'm sure their fans who were curious about trying but probably insufficiently hardcore to try to track down long out-of-print paperbacks to read all their favourites' work must appreciate. Also, I like that she sets these things in parts of history that even most mainstream historical novelists rarely write about, bringing to life interesting ancient times.
