Extending Overdrive Lending Period?

I've read that on kindles, if you keep your wifi off then your library Ebook through overdrive won't expire after the 14 days. Is this also true for the kobo?

I know you can renew a title (but all my titles on hold have long wait lists) so I would start back at the beginning waiting for it again.

Just wondering if there is a way to extend the loan period without starting back at the beginning of the "hold" wait list?

I don't think anyone, even those who got devices quite early, have had one long enough for the time period to expire for a borrowed book. We'll have to wait and see how it's handled.

Wahhhhhhh! But I want to know now!!!! Haha I don't even have my reader yet. I just like to be prepared. Especially if I need to know that playing hookie from work will be required in order to finish a title before it expires

Not sure but checking on my Aura One, the library books I borrowed while testing are showing the loan period as expiring in 4 days despite not having a WiFi connection in the last 48 hours which suggests the expiry is looking at the clock on my ereader and the books will expire without needing an live connection to Overdrive. I'm going to have to wait another day before I get to the allowed to renew time to see if I can renew a loan from the Aura One. If I can't renew from there, I'm going to try renewing from the library website and see if my Kobos recognizes the renewal (the H2O recognized the loan and downloaded a copy after I did the loan on the Aura One despite not having the Overdrive item in Settings).

So far not looking good. The Aura One (and H2O) show the book as expiring in two days and the library website agrees but neither show a renewal option.

You cannot renew if someone else has the eBook on reserve when your time is up.

Turning off the WiFi will not stop the ePub from expiring. What you might be able to do is change the date. But that also means anything else you do that require the correct date won't work properly. If you have another library book and backing up the date will make it before you borrowed, that will cause a problem.

The thing to do is to stay up all night and read till you finish.

Not on the Aura One, but... For my library / Overdrive account, I can select a lending period of 7, 14 or 21 days under settings. I think a renewal notice appears at 3 days if no one has a hold on the title. I would have to reload the book to the reader to reactivate the license.
If my memory serves, if I keep a book open on the Aura (not HD, not H2O, not Second Edition... and not the One) and only sleep, an expired book stays available. As soon as I close the book and try to open it again, I get the dreaded expired notice. I try to avoid getting to this point, because at some point I always forget and go to the home screen.
Not sure how it will all work when Overdrive is in the reader.

The library web site now shows the ebook as being renewable so I renewed it. That does not seem to translate into my Aura One showing it as being renewed. I removed the ebooks and re-added it but the expiry on the Aura One still shows "Expires in 2 days". I'm going to try again in a day and see what happens then. I may have to wait until it expires and then re-borrow it.

Alternately, I might just set the loan period back to 21 days from the current 7 days.

The fact that the Kobo lists the loan expiration date indicates it is baked into the ebook itself, just like ADE loans.
ADE loans simply become unreadable after the loan expires -- ADE knows you shouldn't be reading the book, and refuses to open it.

The Kindle works differently, since Kindle books have no concept of limited-time books. When the loan (OverDrive or KU or KOLL or what-have-you) is over, the Kindle Cloud status changes and the Kindle itself, upon syncing and noticing that fact, automatically deletes the book.
Keeping the WiFi off temporarily prevents that from happening... at the expense of also preventing anything else from happening either.
