2.67 - Unused image file not detected by check book

I had an e-book which had 2 image files, both "claiming" to represent the cover image. Only one of them was actually marked as being the cover image, the other obvious not (not even possible). Check Book indicated no problems.

However it turned out that the image which was marked as the cover image was not used at all (nowhere in the e-book), and the other (unmarked one) was really used as the cover.

Should Check Book not indicate that the unused image file is "unused" even if it is just marked as being the cover image?

An image that is marked as a cover is not an unused image, since it is required in AZW3 (and common in EPUB) to have a separate image just for the ocver that is not referenced anywhere in the text.

Ah, learning all the time. Thanks for the pointer.

However I encountered this phenomena only recently as most (99%) of the epubs I seem to have do not have 2 separate cover image files, but just 1 which is then also appropriately marked as such. And that seems to work well on the (small) amount of e-readers I use. Perhaps I'm just lucky to get away with it

the filename is for Humans
a cover can be any legal name.
It is the Cover because it was declared (symantics)
Converted books may end up with 2 Cover images, because the origional was not properly done. Both the HTML file that contains the image and the image must be declared as 'cover'
