will overdrive be available on other kobo e-readers? aura one questiosn

seriously considering the new kobo aura one
i think the size will make reading experience better
and i like the option of overdrive facility too
anyone know if the sd card can be upgrade inside like the kobo glo hd?
im in uk, so hoping to check this out, i believe 6th septemner is the release date here

We don't know yet because the only ones in the "wild" are in the hands of reviewers who aren't going to pop the device open (pretty sure Kobo would frown on them doing that to review unit ). I'm betting it may not be upgradable just because of the way the new waterproofing apparently works. As I understand it, it's a coating over the internal parts of the device rather then sealing the case itself. They might use an internal SD card but it might be sealed in place by the waterproofing so unremovable without damaging things (beyond just destroying the waterproof seal). Until someone gets one and opens it up we won't know for sure.

In answer to the question in your subject, there has been no official word from Kobo so we don't know if overdrive is coming to the other devices. I'd be surprised if it didn't since it's a good marketing feature, but right now we don't know.

The back of the Glo HD popped off as an accident - seriously.

Alas, the Aura One has a rear shell which is more securely fastened.

HZO has the Aura One displayed in the slide show on their home page (along with the Tolino Vision 3 HD). Quite a bit of information on their technology but it does sound as if it would be pretty close to impossible to remove anything without destroying the waterproof coating. It would be nice if an internal SD card was not coated -- possibly allowing for insertion later in the process by masking the connector.

I should have looked at their site earlier. I didn't realize it was that thin of a coating ("microns thick"), so it probably would be possible to remove an sd card just at the expense of losing waterproofing. I was envisioning a thicker coating (more glue like I guess) that might break something trying to break the sd card free. Or as DNSB says, maybe it's waterproofed before the card is inserted, but I'm not sure that will be obvious.
Still no idea if it has one, but better chance that it might come out.

To answer the title of the thread which was not mentioned in your post...

No one knows. Based on past releases, it will be added but, it might be a month or two after the Aura One release. But, it is possible they will decide not to add it to the older devices. I would expect that they will add it to at least the currently available devices, but we will have to wait and see.

I was DM chating with Rafi Letzter on twitter. He wrote this review for the Aura one. He told me regarding OverDrive for other devices that they have "no plans to roll it out in the near future, but don't rule it out long term"

Regarding the internal MicroSD Card, I don't think this device will have one, but ya never know it might.
