Overwriting books
Currently, when you overwrite a book via Dropbox import, Marvin basically acts as if it is deleting the old book and then adding the new one (losing flags and collection memberships.) It would be nice if, in the future, these were preserved (at least as an option) especially membership in the reading list.
Also, I frequently add books to Marvin via "Copy to Marvin" from a file manager app. Currently, replacing an existing book via this method requires the user to manually delete the old book from Marvin first. An option to overwrite would be great as I frequently update my books. (I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive when it comes to fixing typos.) |

@Jsolomon If the book you overwrote with is the same, all properties will be preserved. This happens when there are differences between the old/new version (even metadata changes).
Marvin needs to do this because if the content changes, then highlight ranges, bookmarks, and some other properties might 'shift' . Restoring 'old' highlights/bookmarks/etc on a different version cannot be guaranteed to be reliable. |

I fully understand that you can't reasonably preserve any of the internal status (as you say bookmarks, reading position, annotations etc)
I am only requesting that you preserve the library level information such as collection membership (and special collections such as the reading list) I can't see how the contents or even the metadata would have any effect on this. Please clarify. Last edited by Jsolomon; 08-24-2016 at 11:42 AM. |
