Cool Finding Kobo books on Android and moving to Calibre

Hi

I'm a newbie to the world of ebooks so I hope I am in the right place to get help with a problem.

I have some ebooks in Mobi format which I reader with FBreader (no problems at all) and have recently purchased some books from Kobo which I try to read with their own app (not good). All books are on my Samsung Galaxy S2.

I have downloaded Calibre on a desktop PC and imported my Mobi books. I now want to import my Kobo books and convert them to a format that I can read with FRreader. I have also installed the Calibre plugin for Kobo but when I click on the device tab (for the S2) and the Obok plugin I get: Error - Could not find Kobo library ???

The Samsung is connected to the PC via USB - any answers appreciated

You need to ask in the Kobo or Calibre forums.
This is the introduce yourself forum. So hi, welcome and tell us a little about yourself.

I don't know the answer (I'm sure someone will be along) or if it can even be done from the Android app, but what I do instead of dealing with kePub's is just download the ePub version from Kobo's website and add that to my Calibre library. Alternatively if for some reason I can't think of you want the kePub you can always install the Kobo desktop software and get them that way.

The Obok plugin will not read the library from the device. It reads the library and the necessary keys to decrypt from the Kobo desktop program. This program must be installed on the same computer as Calibre and Obok and your Kobo books downloaded with the program. A very easy process once set up.

Well that explains it then. I thought that if you selected the connected device that it would read the content of the device.

I haven't tried for a while, but last I checked the Obok plugin did support getting books from the devices. But, only the e-ink devices. I haven't heard of anyone doing anything with the Android or iOS apps.

Kobo book uploads again!

Hi All

Sorry to be a pain. I have basically asked this question 3 months ago, got the answer from Darryl (below). At the time I had asked how to add books bought from Kobo to my Calibre Library. At that time I understood Darrlys reply, and uploaded my books, but have now forgotten.

I have recently bought 2 new books from Kobo and although I can see and read them on the Kobo Desktop I cannot get them into Calibre or find them anywhere in the Kobo directory structure. The Kobo chat line could/would not help. When I click on the Obok button I get "Database Error file is encrypted or not a database"

Can some kind soul point me in the right direction - AGAIN

With the current version of Kobo Desktop a new version of Obok is required. Currently the elves are working on the required changes.

@Rexthewolf. Peter is of course quite correct. I would add that a post from davidfor in another thread holds out hope that a new working version of obok will be out soon. Apparently Kobo made some changes which broke Obok. In the meantime you can still get your books from Kobo as epubs by downloading them to Adobe Digital Editions. You can then import them to Calibre. Apprentice Alf's plugins work fine with epubs and ADE.

Thumbs up

Many thanks again guys.

Bloody Kobo! Any timescale on the Obox fix? I have tinkered with ADE but never really got it working. I'll give it another go
