Metadata download in different languages at the same or from a small publisher?

I need to download metadata for books of different languages at the same time. For languages other than English the result is often poor. When I configure the language of the Amazon website to the appropriate language (e.g. Germany) I get much better results. But unfortunately – as I understand – I can choose only one language website of Amazon at the same time. This is very inconvenient for me as I have to change this option all the time. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Sometimes all the possibilities offered by Calibre are not good. I have to go to the publisher website and copy & paste (the abstract) or download & upload (the cover). Again: Is there a better way done directly from Calibre?

A Book (singular) in Calibre is for a single language (as set in the language column AND by the associated ISBN).

3 Languages require 3 DIFFERENT Books, with 3 DIFFERENT ISBN's

(The first ISBN-10 digit is the Books Language) . Leave any of these (language keys) out and you roll the dice.

Short of using a metadata plugin to subclass the Amazon one, using a specific language selection? No.

The problem is no one has really tried to solve this problem before -- most people don't need to keep on downloading metadata for multiple languages.

Sure there is. Someone needs to write a metadata plugin to support that particular website.

calibre can only find what is on the websites it knows about. And it depends on users to teach it about new websites.

I'm one of them, suffering notoriously from the need to switch between various Amazons (well, mostly I just end up using Amazon for English and other sources for the rest of languages).

Wouldn't it be possible somehow to add multiple copies of the Amazon plugin, each one of them set to a different Amazon?

I don't see why not. The Amazon metadata source is a builtin plugin, so you can just write a plugin which subclasses and overrides calibre.ebooks.metadata.sources.amazon.Amazon

Sorry, that I have not expressed my question well. My English

I know: one book = one language. What I wanted to say is that the next time downloading metadata e.g. for the second/third etc. book (or when I do a bulk download of metadata) I experience the reported difficulty.

I understand. I do not have the knowledge to do this, but maybe a friend of mine. I have seen that there is a tutorial how to write plugins and one could also learn from other metadata plugins.

If you post a request, naming the website you want to download metadata from, in the Plugins subforum, someone may see and be interested enough to implement a plugin.
Or find a friend who can do it for you.

P.S. I've posted the plugin (with a slightly modified name) in the Plugins subforum, together with additional copies #2-5 for serious power users.

My only wish would be to be able to install multiple copies of this plugin (to access more than two Amazons in total), if possible.

I hadn't noticed your earlier post before I wrote mine! Now I've found the thread, with all the plugin copies.

But don't worry, I won't beg for more copies... unless in a couple of years I'll be crazy enough to start learning Japanese or Portuguese

Thanks again. In the meanwhile I had made additional modified copies myself. That was easy, just looking into the programme. But programming in python from scratch is out of the question for me.

Therefore I appreciated your tip with the Plugins subforum. I just posted the suggestion.
