Smashwords site-wide sale for July

Smashwords has their annual "July Summer/Winter Sale" going on now. Several authors will have titles on sale anywhere from 25% off to Free. The sale will last for the rest of the month. Authors can add titles as the month goes along, so it may pay to check back from time to time.

Enjoy!

This is just a first look, I pretty much just check mysteries, and there are LOTS of repeats from previous sales, but the ones I noticed in this Smashwords sale so far include:

Both titles in Kaye George’s People of the Wind pre-historic series, published by Untreed Reads: Death in the Time of Ice (#1) is 50% off of $4.99 and Death on the Trek (#2) is 25% off of $4.99. (Again, George’s Imogene Duckworthy titles don’t seem to be on sale, although they are pretty reasonably priced for backlist at $3.99.) Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/kayegeorge2

All (I think) of the titles in Dorien Grey’s Dick Hardesty series are 25% off, except the first, which is 75% off. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/doriengrey3

Both titles in Stephen Morrill’s Mangrove Bayou series, published by Untreed Reads, are 25% off. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/stephenmorrill2

Sarah Shankman has most of the titles in her Samantha Adams series at 25% off and the first one at 75% off. Also at least one non-series title, Impersonal Attractions, at 50% off. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/sarahshankman

Gillian Roberts has many titles, including most or all of her Amanda Pepper series, on sale for 25% off. There are some bundles that offer pretty good prices if you need all the titles in the bundle., and the first title in the Amanda Pepper series is just $0.99 (not on sale). Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/gillianroberts

Several titles by Dorothy Francis are 25% off. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/dorothyfrancis

And a bunch of titles published by Gemma Halliday’s publishing company are 50% off, so if you like cozies, you’re in luck. If you consider Halliday’s company to be self-pub, just skip these…

The titles in the Franki Amato series by Traci Andrighetti. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...aciandrighetti

The titles in the Health Nut series by Patrice Lyle. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...ricelyleauthor

Invitation to Murder and Killer Unleashed by Beth Prentice. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...prenticeauthor

The Cookies & Chance and Cindy York series by Catherine Bruns. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/catherinebruns

The Gilda Wright series by Diane Bator. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/dianebator

The titles in the Raven McShane series by Stephanie Caffrey. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...ephaniecaffrey

Several titles in the Greatest Hits and Merry Wrath series by Leslie Langtry. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...eLangtryauthor

Titles in the Helen Binney series by Gin Jones. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/ginjonesauthor

A couple of titles by Aimee Gilchrist, The Tell-Tale Con and Digging Up Bones. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/AimeeGilchrist

Thanks for pointing these out.

Just a note, the 4-Star review for Death in the Time of Ice is from me. I did like the story, but as I noted in the review:

"... I will admit that I had some trouble with some of the underlying assumptions of the story. The geographic setting, cultural development, and even personal capabilities of the Neandertal tribes in this story are all pretty far leaps from what modern science can support. If you can accept this environment, you'll enjoy the story."

Just be aware in case some scientific free-wheeling will be a problem for you.

I had time to go through most of the rest of the mystery titles on sale, and found that I really could have just repeated my list from the last Smashwords sale, and it wouldn’t have been far off. Oh well – there are a few newer titles in some series…

Marilyn Todd has all (AFAIK) of the titles in her Claudia Seferius and High Priestess Iliona series on sale at 25% off, except for the first in each series, which are already priced lower ($0.99) than the rest. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/marilyntodd

Presumably all (too many for me to click on them all, but all of the ones I checked) of Connie Shelton’s Samantha Sweet and Charlie Parker series at 50% off. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...eltonmysteries

Stephen Humphrey Bogart has both titles in his R.J. Brooks series at 50% off, and also a reasonably well reviewed (4 stars on Amazon) biography of his father (Humprey Bogart, of course ) at 50% off.
Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...humphreybogart

MK Wren has most or all of the titles in her Conan Flagg series at 25%, including some bundles. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/mkwren

And a lot more from Gemma Halliday Publishing at 50% off - or sometimes already less for the first in series. (Just skip these if you think this is self-pub):

Murder Casts Its Spell by Margaret C. Morse. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/margaretmorse

The MacKenzie & MacKenzie and Southern Pasta Shop series by Jennifer L. Hart. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/jenniferlhart

The Barb Jackson series by Anna Snow. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/annasnowauthor

Titles in the Culinary Competition series by Janel Gradowski. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...radowskiauthor

The Poppy Peters series by A. Gardner. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/agardnerauthor

The Amelia Grace Rock 'n' Roll Mysteries by Anne Marie Stoddard. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/v...emariestoddard

The two books in the Max Slade series by David Deutsch. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/davideutsch

Teased to Death by Gina LaManna. Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/ginalamanna

Dead in the Water by Phyllis A. Humphrey (but not, at least for now, the second title in this series). Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/phyllishumphrey

75% off Body Wave, the 4th book in the Bad Hair Days series by Nancy J. Cohen (but not, at least for now, any of the others that I clicked on). Link: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/NancyJCohen

All of Lyn Hamilton's "Lara McClintoch Archaeological Mysteries" are Free after applying the coupon code SFREE except for The Xibalba Murders, the first in the series. But that one is priced at an affordable $1.99 (the others are regularly priced at $4.99). I bought these at a previous Smashwords sale -- not for 100% off -- and I like them.

Just a reminder that this is probably the last day to pick anything you might want from the sale, or the freebies if you haven't already.

Incidentally, it looks like a very large portion of the BevEditions catalogue, which is mainly Canadian small press backlist, can be gotten for free, alongside the Lyn Hamilton mysteries mentioned above.

Thanks for the tip! A bunch of titles in the Marc Edwards series by Don Gutteridge are also free or reduced, including a box set normally priced at $16.99, and I hadn't known that. I haven't read any in this series, but have had an eye on it for a while, so really happy to see these. And as you mentioned, a few other titles in there too...

How would someone go about finding good non-fiction titles without having to wade through the endless selection?

The outcome might not be perfect, but you can scroll down the left side of the screen and click on "Nonfiction" or one of the sub-headings. Then you can sort by Best Sellers, Most Downloads, Highest Rated, etc.

It's been a few years since I tried Smashwords, but it seems that I remember that even using the filters it took a long time to go through the books. But, I'll give it another try. From what others said, there seem to be some good fiction books at Smashwords; maybe there will be some good non-fiction ones, too.

Thanks.
