Seriousness Zepto virus blocks my files

I have a question about my Laptop. I have got by all my file some strange extensions on the end and I can not open them now. For example my file: shakespear_strong.doc is shakespear_strong.doc.zepto now. What is it? Is it realy a virus that blocks everything? Because I can not open all my files and fotos.

Are there any good PC Expert pages? Whom can I ask?

It's a "ransomware" virus called "Locky". Do a Google search for it.

What antivirus software are you running on your PC? The normal way to get infected with this virus is to open a malicious email attachment, but any decent AV program should block that.

I can recommend Bleeping Computer ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ ). They will help you if they can, but many ransomware viruses can't be undone. They will help for free, but it takes a long time. There's a lot of bad stuff out there.

I think that you have opened E-Mail with a Virus in it. Or a spam E-mail. I receive 2-4 such E-Mails every day and I delete them. I looked at bleepingcomputer forum, but now they have no any solutions to zepto-ransomware-virus because it is rather new one. I found some informations on a german virus-decryption-page:

May be it can help you. They write that Recovery Pro Program and PC Healp Advisor Paretologic Program can solve the decryption of this ransomware.

The key thing is leave your computer switched off. The longer it's switched on for, the more of your files the virus will encrypt.

Zepto is a Ransomware software that when it infects your computer, it encrypts all the files in it. The bad news with this virus is that, once it infects your computer, your critical files are encrypted with strong encryption and it is practically impossible to decrypt them.

This Cryptolocker Ransomware demands that you make a payment of 300$ or 300€ in a specific period of time (e.g. 72h or 100h), through a payment service (e.g. MoneyPak, Ukash, PaySafeCard, etc.) in order to unlock your files. otherwise -after that period- nobody can restore or decrypt them.If you want more information then you could visit http://www.pcvirusexpert.com and search your queries there. They have a nice collection of PC malware and provide solution to fix them.

Unfortunately, there is still no effective free decryptor utility that can decrypt files encrypted by zepto ransomware. Based on the Locky ransomware, Zepto Ransomware changes the name of the files to its own extension: .zepto. If you want to remove the ransomware manually from the machine, the guide in this article http://guides.uufix.com/encrypted-wi...removal-guide/ may be useful.

If you have a good backup from before that time, it might be useful to just restore your computer to the "Before" state.

edit: sorry .... I do backups as my day job. So I'm always shilling for "keep a backup!"

Hi. Anybody was lucky to decrypt zepto virus ? It is there any chance to recover encrypted data? Because I'm in pretty pickle with with Zepto successor named Odin.

And I've already used Recuva plus this guide but nothing really helped me.
So I'm hesitating weather to pay BTC for decryption tool or too find another (cheapest) ways to get my data back.

It sounds like either you pay or your screwed unless you have a late enough backup.
