Sigil Error
I have a text defined clip. If I click in the find box and select the clip to paste it I receive the following error:
Sigil has encountered a problem. Sigil cannot continue and will now close Error Info: Critical: OleSetClipboard: Failed to set mime data (text/plain) on clipboard: COM error 0xffffffff800401d0 (Unknown error 0xffffffff800401d0)(The Parameter is incorrect.) Sigil Version 0.9.6 Runtime Qt: 5.4.2 Compiled Qt: 5.4.2 Platform: Windows Sysinfo ID 240 Doesn't shut down Sigil. Just an annoying error. |

"Platform: Windows Sysinfo ID 240" (and many variations on it) is not helping Google help me identify what version of Windows you're using.
Just to verify... you're getting the error when: 1) you select the clip in the Clip editor? or, 2) when you click the "Paste Clip" button in the Clip Editor? I can't duplicate the issue on my Windows machines. |

Windows shared clipboard bug. Some other program was accessing the clipboard at the same time that Sigil attempted it. That is why Sigil itself did not close.
See: https://forum.qt.io/topic/55491/auto...lected-text/10 near the end where they track the problem down to a VncViewer running at the same time. |

Sorry, I guess I didn't do a good job of describing the problem.
1. I have the clip bar visible. 2. I click in the find box. 3. I click the item on the clip bar to put the text in the find box. It does put the text in the box and then gives the error. Hope that helps you duplicate the problem. |

Can you please post the contents of the clip or zip up sigil_clips.ini and attach it to your post? Also, you didn't mention whether you use the official build or a portable apps version. |

Also note Kevin's response above concerning a known Qt issue with shared clipboards on Windows. You likely have some other software that is trying to access the clipboard at the same time as Sigil.

If Sigil does not close, then this is most likely a bug in the Windows shared clipboard. Firefox and other programs/utilities can easily have ownership of the clipboard or one of its items.
So next time it happens, keep repeating the attempt while shutting down everything else running. My guess you have some sort of clipboard utility software running since others can not recreate what you are seeing. |

Firefox is easy to eliminate as likely cause, exit it and retest In Task Manager->Start-up you can disable start-up tasks Using this ==>> ShellExView you can disable shell extensions. BR |

Could very well be something in windows. Not in startup, that is very tightly controlled. By me.
Could be a shell extension, How would I tell? Yes I have downloaded and run ShellExView. Don't know what to look for as far as something effecting the clipboard. PK |

Something in startup may hook the clipboard unbeknownst to you. My download manager does it even though I don't make direct use of that feature, I discovered it does it accidentally; but I hasten to add it causes no problems with Sigil or anything else The only way I know to find these things is via a process of methodical elimination. I lean towards disabling everything - assuming the problem goes away then start re-enabling one by one until it comes back. BR |

I'm not going to worry about it. I can't get it to reoccur very often. Just the once I reported on the 27th.
It was not causing any problems so it's not worth any more time. _ _ _ On other matters: Is it possible to make misspelled words show in Book View? Is it possible to get rid of <--Start Fragment--> and <--End Fragment--> When pasting chunks in Book View? PK |

Kevin can probably answer for certain, but I'm pretty sure that's nothing to do with Sigil. I've never seen those get added when pasting in Book View (nor heard of it happening to anyone else), and those strings occur nowhere in Sigil's source code. They're coming from somewhere else--possibly the source from which you copied.

A search for "Fragment" in the entire repository for Sigil comes up with nothing. So this comment string is not being generated by Sigil. It could come from your system clipboard software or from whatever source you copied it from, or from clipboard utilities.

Steps to reproduce this non-issue: 1. Start MS Word. 2. Enter random text, highlight it, make it bold and copy it to the clipboard. 3. Create a new epub in Sigil, switch to Book View and paste the text from the clipboard. 4. Click No, when asked whether the text should be inserted as plain text. For example, when I selected the text of your last post in Firefox and pasted it into a blank Sigil document, I got the following code: Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <!--StartFragment-->A search for "Fragment" in the entire repository for Sigil comes up with nothing. So this comment string is not being generated by Sigil. It could come from your system clipboard software or from whatever source you copied it from, or from clipboard utilities.<br /> <br /><!--EndFragment--><p>KevinH </p> </body> </html> |
