How much space on your HD does the OS take up? After this new update mine OS takes up 17 GIG!!!

How much space on your HD does the OS take up? After this new update mine OS takes up 17 GIG!!!

How did you come up with 17 Gb for the OS? If that were true the 16 Gb tablets would NOT be able to run the new OS.

I have a 32 Gb Fire HD10 that was updated to the most current OS. Going to Settings- Storage- Internal Storage- I find System=2.20 Gb.

You have had so many problems with your HD10 I wonder if you have a defective unit.
Movies download kinda slow for me maybe taking 45 minutes but not hours or days. Then latest update was automatic for me and I got the notice about books and other stuff now downloading to the SD card if one is inserted. Maybe you need to talk to Amazon about your HD10.

If I am wrong about your finding a 17Gb OS could you tell me how you did it so I can learn how to do it correctly.

That what it has been since this last update. Defective Yes Amazon CS wont do a thing! O they did suggest I take it back to Factory. Great that means Reloading everything! & Waiting Month to use it aging cause of all the dang update, Each update keeps me from using the Fire for 3-5 Days as it is.

I posted here to find out if this was Normal & hopefully some one can tell me how to fix it get my space back!

Hey Katie,
Please tell us exactly where on the Fire you saw this 17Gig.
Secondly, take the darn thing back to Best Buy where you bought it and tell them the problems you are having.

Best Buy Returns 15 Days! Well past that. Settings > Storage >Internal Storage > System ...17.1

Amazon says the Only way to fix it is to take it back to factory. Then I get the joy of Not being able to use it for a Month while I re-load it with Updates Books & Apps! Anything else on it! Last System update took 6 Gig! Now this one taking up 11....

Or little trick I learned years ago:
If you are having a device problem and the other person cannot see you, start at the beginning and tell that person everything you have done.
Step 1. Setting:wifi: turn off
Step 2: Press and hold power button anywhere from 30 to 40 seconds to restart.
Step 3: Settings: device:Internal storage (4.92 GB of 5.37 GB available)

Or whatever you have done.
Yes it takes longer to describe but much less confusion.

Katie1, I think you are misunderstanding that internal storage. On the older fire, the internal storage is for books and everything.
Now since I am blind: please tell me everything listed past here.
Settings > Storage >
I know internal but what else is there?

Apps & Games> Books>Amazon Movies>Misc>Photos.... take up the rest O & 6.95 GB free

Better yet can you do a screen shot. Hold power and volume down button to capture the screen. If not maybe your son can do it for you then post them for us to take a look.

Cindy this Last update Evey one was saying would take 5 mins ...took 3-4 DAYS. The update before this took a WEEK. When I first got it from New to those last 2 updates took 10 DAYS. Then it took 3 DAYS for each Movie to DL. 20 Days for ALL my e-books. Then there is my Audubon Collection of Apps! A day per each!
I still like the Fire better than the Stupid PW3. At least when I buy a e-book I can read it instantly unlike the PW3 I still cant find 20-25 books on it.

Didn't I read something about a new movie feature where Amazon auto downloads movies they think you'd like to your device. Could it be that is what is taking up space?
