Recover Kindle in unknown state
So I have a Kindle 4th gen with a jailbreak, USBNetwork, custom kernel and even a broken out serial connector. I have not done anything with it for years, and have forgotten pretty much everything I did to it. but now I want to use it to... read books you know?
Except, when I plug it in to the PC it comes up as a network interface and the custom kernel seems to make battery life worse somehow. So I was wondering if there is a way to get it back to factory settings? Back in the day there were no fancy launchers and GUI's so all the current information on how to for example change the USB mode don't apply to my case AFAICT. I don't have any apps, except for a broken terminal emulator. IIRC I had to open up the keyboard and punch in some commands into the search field. I tried connecting to the network interface, but the IP and passwords I found for current USBNetwork software don't seem to match mine. So here I am, hoping someone remembers how things used to work in 2012, so that I can at least put some books on my Kindle, and maybe even go back to a working kernel. [edit] After a lot more messing and searching I found you can type ~usbNetwork, which at first appeared to do nothing. But after trying ~help and ;debugOn, and after reconnecting, finally allowed me to put books on it. Battery life is still crap though. The custom kernel intended to add USB OTG support, which worked, but messed up the charging behaviour. Just as I unplugged it, it went between several battery icons, finally deciding it was definitely charging. Last edited by pepijndevos; 04-18-2016 at 12:01 PM. |

Questions such as this plainly belong in the dev forum, to where I'm moving it.

You seem to have usbnet set to auto run. You need to delete or rename that file (see the readme in the usbnet folder). Or uninstall usbnet altogether. The usbnet in diags (ENABLE_DIAGS) has password 'mario'.

KUBRICK (found among our sticky threads) will get the K4 back to factory firmware + jailbreak.

There was more than one question in that post.
Hence more than one possible answer. |
