Boox Artatech C67ML (AfterGlow 2) --- Upgrade: Yes or No?

I was gifted by a very generous member here, a free Boox Artatech C67ML (AfterGlow 2), with build #1.6.6-artatech 2015-01-21_10-09 f482e42.

I got this yesterday and I've been playing around with it.

I believe there may be a new update.

If so, should I update?

And, if there is a new update, in what manner should I go about getting this update?

Are there any issues that I should know about?

My main concern is that I don't want to lose Google Play with this update, AND I don't want to do any rooting.

My understanding is that the AfterGlow 2 - which is the one I have - comes with both of those apps; whereas, the C67ml does not contain those two.

Hi, About two weeks ago I've got Afterglow2 and upgraded it to V1.7.4 via the same site. Google play still works well, also this update added new features, new look and some kind of button in the top right that turns into +- when clicked on it (I still dont know what it does) and some more options in settings. So I think it is worth to upgrade

How did you go about doing the upgrade?

Was the process completely automatic, or did you have to select certain options?

Please note that the link you provided does not contain a firmware for your device (AG2 is slightly different to C67ML). The correct one is here: http://www.onyx-international.com/in...e-for-artatech . Please note also that this is not official ArtaTech firmware since they stopped the device support after breaking their relationship with Onyx.

The current firmware upgrade was pretty smooth process in my case. You can read on the firmware page about changes and features removed from original ArtaTech software. Besides of some GUI refresh I don't see major differences. Maybe battery life is a bit better.

This is how I did: I've put the firmware file to the device storage, then i clicked Settings- About- System Update- check update from local storage- then select the firmware. Sorry for my bad english.

I had tried twice with the wrong firmware upgrade and it failed.

With your link to the correct firmware, I'm now in the process of attempting an upgrade.

Well, I downloaded the update package (from the correct vendor), and my device is showing "No update package available." (Remember, though, that I twice attempted an update from the wrong vendor and the update failed.)

Any suggestions, please?

Where have you put the update.zip file? It should be either in root folder of built-in storage or root folder on SD card. Have you maybe left the old update.zip in one of these locations? If everything's fine try to re-download correct update.zip (I got it once with crc errors).

I just opened the folder to the drive and copied it there.

I even tried it on the SD card.

No luck at all.

It actually shows up as a zip book in my Library (when one clicks the Library icon at the bottom of the screen.)

There must be some residual file from the failed (earlier) update with the wrong software.

Any suggestions?

Have You tryed the method that is given in onyx webpage? I think its the same as using settings-update.

1. To press the reset button (a hole near the power button) to perform a force shutdown ;
2. Insert a micro SD card with the newest update package (click here );
3. Long press both back button and power button for 5 seconds > release > startup > enter recovery mode;
4. Press back button > select "apply update from external storage" using power button > jump to "choose a package to install";
5. Press back button > select "update.zip" using power button > enter update mode (usually takes 2 to 3 minutes);
6. Once the update is completed, it will return to the recovery mode automatically. Select "reboot system now" using power button > reboot > enter the system successfully.

Your list or process worked to the point that it loads in the update and only goes so far (which isn't much) and then I get 'failure.' I'm stymied.

Neru, you're going above and beyond the call of duty - AND I CERTAINLY DO THANK YOU for your help and advice. Unfortunately, I think perhaps there's some issue on the ebook reader itself - an issue I created. It works perfectly fine as is (and was given to me as an extremely generous gift!).

I'm sure it's something that I've unwittingly done that will not allow me to get the latest firmware to load w/o that failure and abrupt stop.

I really like the screen clarity, on bold, which is much better than my aging Kobo Glo's screen.

I think the instructions are the following ones:

Before update your device , please ensure enough power (over 30%), if uncertainty, connect the power supply to avoid running out of power led to the update can not enter the system:



1. Downloaded update file, rename to update.zip into the root directory of built-in storage or the root directory of MicroSD card, without decompression;


2. Go to Settings - About - system update , choose "Check update from local storage";


3. The system detects the update package, the process need about 3-5 minutes ;
If you can not detect the update package, please check the downloaded file package is complete, try another new MicroSD card or save the package in built-in storage and try again;

4. After updating the device will automatically reboot (for the first time into the system a little longer, please be patient), you can enter the settings - About - devices check the version number;


5. Remove the memory card upgrade package, the upgrade is complete.
