custom dictionary and other questions

I have recently switched ereaders to the Aura H2O. After fiddling with it, I have a few questions. First a little note, I read mostly fanfiction that I get via a plugin on calibre, so I don't really buy books (yet).

1. I understand that I can put custom dictionaries on my Kobo. Is it possible for me to create those dictionaries from scratch. Some of the fandoms I read use canon words that are seen throughout the fandom but nowhere else. It would be nice if I could create my own dictionary with those words.

2. I found the details view of the books, which I love as it has the summary of the story in the synopsis. Is it possible to manipulate the details and related view. I would like to add some of my calibre columns to the details and add books that are part of a series to the related view.

3. I got the Kobo Aura H2O thinking I would be able to put calibre companion on it. After looking in the forum, this does not seem to be the case. Is it possible to put a reader program on the device that would organize the books by nested tags (tags with a heirarchy)?

I'm still playing around, but I was wondering on those things I mentioned and did not see any posts about it.

If you can get the words and meanings into an appropriate format, then you can generate the dictionary. There is a dictionary thread in the developers section that should have the information you need.

A beta version of my Kobo Utilities plugin can do that. The instructions are in this post and the preceding few posts. But use the beta in this post. Don't worry that it is a beta. It works fine, I've just been busy with other things and haven't released it properly.

Koreader uses the directory structure. If you can map your nested tags to directories, it should work.

I looked in the developer's section, but all the posts seemed to be about porting already made dictionaries. I'll have to do a more in depth look.

That looks like it may work. Although, it would have been nice to put the different columns in the details section. I'm having a little trouble finding the mentioned file, but I will post on that thread.

I'm not sure that would work. Each epub have different tags. From what I know of directories, that would mean there would be multiple copies of the book in the different directories. Or am I wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, most of the discussion is about converting existing dictionaries. But, I think there is a pointer somewhere in there to what the source dictionary must look like.

Putting the other column info into the details section was the whole point of this. If you look at the screenshot in the first beta post, it has the rating, word count (from a custom column), last read (from a custom column filled via the Kobo Utilities plugin) and the tags. These are after the existing comment. I probably should have pointed to this post yesterday as it is the start of the discussion and I have realised I might have missed some instructions from the later post.

I assume for the "mentioned file" you are talking about the file with the template. If so, it is a new file that you create. Where it goes is mentioned in the above post.

Yes and that's one of the problems with directory structures vs tagging. Some people have no problems with having multiple copies of the book in different places. Others would use a primary tag or genre for the directories. Within the Kobo firmware, you can create collections. A book can be in multiple collections. The calibre driver can create these collections based on one or more columns in your library. But, the collections are single level, not hierarchical.
