Siswoo R9 Darkmoon
It looks to me this telephone will change the rules of the game if samsung or iphone won't react really soon.
Basically there are rumors over an eink screen for the samsung S7, and it looks the eink cover for iphone popslate 2 is amazing. Also the specs and android 5.1 look far better than the yotaphone 2. Somebody owns already one? In the internet I saw really enthusiastic reviews, even for the design. I am writing because as who knows me I am since long time an endorser of double eink lcd solutions, and reading eink in such a small format is really tempting even for avid eink lovers. I imagine with one hand I could virtually read it on the street while I bring a girl to do shopping ![]() ![]() ![]() and even seeing the coverage of the book with the color and start to read them in eink, and then switch again to lcd when I have to perform fast operations as swipe fast pages, search terms etc... would make it the ereader of my dreams I would like to buy one but cannot find it so easily on line, and it looks was already sold out, from the various sources I read this evening( so I do not know how real they can be) I do not know if you think as well eink/lcd telephones will be the short/ middle term trends that will revolutionize the way we intend ereaders, but at least I would know if also somebody else find them attractive Last edited by trocchietto; 03-14-2016 at 08:03 AM. |

A dual screen (LCD/eInk) phone has been my dream gadget since long. Although it's a bit costly affair at the moment.
![]() As an alternative to Siswoo R9 Darkmoon, OUKITEL U 6 can also be considered, subject to deep study and comparison of specifications of both. Particularly their battery life and price factor. |

An important consideration is that we say phones, but I would say 4,5 inches, 5 inches eink ereaders, that outside being small ereaders are also telephone, phablets etc. The fact than then the phone has a disruptive battery life and can be read under the sun, should be secondary, if we consider this forum. So the point is an ereader addict, would consider an all in one device, even considering the added value synergies of the eink, lcd technology? |

For an ereader addict, this product may not be comparable to a real front lit 6" eInk reader, but may certainly be useful to people who travel a lot and do not like to carry too many gadgets and chargers. This type of product would prove to be a good secondary reader for them, IMHO. Besides, from a phone point of view, I believe this product shall give a good week long battery backup if used on eInk screen only. This will be an added advantage for android users like me, who use their phones for calling and call receiving only, not playing games or any other battery unfriendly activities, ![]() |

we have to face that a decent eink experience is possible with 6 inches for most of the avid readers, but still if you read a novel and need occasionaly just to highlight or touch the screen for the dictionary is really easy to besatisfied also with a 4.5 inches All in all I would be pleased to have a 6.4 inches as the sony experia of some years ago, one would have 1)a decent tablet to see movies and pdf large documents in lcd 2) a decent phone 3g although a little big( you can use a super light plantronic legend, or your favorites BT headphones with vocal commands to speak) 3) a gorgeous 6.4 eink screen to read Much more... I should not bring batteries( or at least only one), design could be gorgeous with edge technology, you would have notifications and relevant data always on without opening always the telephone( that drains further battery, and personal time if you are a busy person), the back eink could show personalized images( ..and i bet some company could think to eink color again, that means R&D in eink color from major players...),it would fit in almost every jacket, would offer added feature to eink readers customers as turn the screen to fast swype pages. I guess would be a real traditional ereader killer ![]() ![]() ![]() anyway let s see the market, as I am saying since ages, will be a natural bridge before of bendable eink and lcd .. that will follow in 5 years( I do not know why not know...bah ![]() Last edited by trocchietto; 03-16-2016 at 07:25 PM. |

A single eInk screen won't do as the Onyxphone E 43 has clearly shown. Its fun as a small ereader with its (old) android under the hood but too slow for most consumers to consider as a telephone. Concerning the Oukitel U6: The first firmware seems to lack usability, as mentioned here (1st comment). Anyone out there who can tell us more about the Siswoo R9 Darkmoon from own experience? |

Basically you use the phone normally, with the exception of using the eink for reading, emails, always-on notifications and data( number email received, whatsapp messages, call lost, data, hour, weather) then when the phone is almost out of battery you simply switch to eink and still can use all the core functionalities, that is a great aspect together with the sun readability. Said that it looks to me from the video, that is fluid to use this technology with performing hardware, much more than traditional eink readers( but is my feeling, I did not do any benchmark) then....in the future.. If the technology will be accepted by the market, then from one side the eink will benefit of massive research and development efforces, and so will do the apps, for instance you will have google maps, without animation, but indicating with sensors how many meters you will have to turn left, right etc.( in this case the eink will be furnished with retroilluminated lights, so that you can read on the car and so on the synergies will grow at a point that we will have always more color eink screen efficient to see video and better defined lcd on the other side.. not a bad scenario for customers isnt'it?) But in my opinion we should no consider how Lcd apps go on eink, in theory seeing videos in eink for instance could dramatically lower the life of the device Last edited by trocchietto; 03-21-2016 at 07:28 AM. |
