Kobo Glo HD Screen Brightness Setting
Hi
I'm new to using the Kobo Glo HD. I have a query about the ComfortLight Screen Brightness setting. I find that the midpoint setting of 50% is too bright for use during the daytime. I'm wondering what settings others find comfortable? |

Outdoors during the day, I usually don't turn it on. But when I'm indoors, I usually go within the 20-40% range of brightness. I owned a Kobo Aura before and the Glo HD seems like it really has a brighter light.

Brightness settings for my Glo:
0% Reading in good lighting. 10% Reading in total darkness. 20% Reading in poor lighting (indoors, overcast day, etc.) 30% Reading in fair lighting (outside, sunny day in the shade, etc.) 50% Finding my way from tent to camp toilet at night. 75% Lighting the room so everyone can read paper books during a power cut. 100% Signaling passing ships when lost at sea in heavy fog. |

Nightmode hack with brightness at 5% when there is no other light source
Otherwise brightness is set at 25% |

I use 4% on my H2O when I am reading in the dark or dark enough.

Personally, I don't know. I change the light level as need when reading. And I do that by running my finger up and down the left edge of the screen. If the screen is to bright, I make it dimmer. If I can't see the letters, I make it brighter. I think that is running between 5% and 30%, but I don't really know.
Of course, I do turn it all the way up and use it as a torch to find my way around at night without disturbing others. So long as I don't look directly at the screen, I'm OK. |

I must be in the minority. My reader stays at 60% always. In the sunlight, it just makes the background a bit more white, and it's perfect for nighttime for me as well, including in totally dark rooms. I'm actually glad I don't need to keep adjusting the light and one setting just stays.
Maybe it's not too bright because my screen is more beige colored, so the light is more subdued than on a pure white screen. When I look at both my HD (beige screen) and regular Glo (pure white screen), the regular Glo is so much brighter at all levels than the Glo HD. |

I tend to adjust the setting to where I feel comfortable and seldom pay much attention to the %. It's probably around 30% in bright light and 10% in dim lighting. I've used 100% to help find a flashlight during a power outage on several occasions.

Thanks, everyone for your advice, especially GeofR for his thoughts on using the Kobo Glo as a signalling device when lost at sea in a heavy fog.

When I turn the brightness of my H2O up to 100%, it blocks the light from the sun.
