Add Book error
I've recently been getting an error when I click on the Add Books button in my Calibre library. It brings up the Select Books window in the background with an error message box in the front. The title bar of the error box is "calibre.exe - Entry Point Not Found". The message is "The procedure entry point ??4QString@@QEAAAEAV0@$$QEAV0@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\Components\Shell\DBROverlayIconBAckuped.d ll." When I click the OK button, the message reappears. I have to click it eight times before the error window goes away and I can then add books with no apparent problems.
I have used Calibre for a while and not experienced any problems but I did recently move to a new Windows 8.1 laptop. It was a while before I added books to the library after I started using the new laptop so I can't be for sure when the problem started (that is, whether it was there from when I started using the laptop or after I added some plugins and custom columns to calibre, etc.) Any idea what is causing the problem and how I can fix it? Background: I was using an HP laptop and the new one is a Dell. I'm not a computer whiz so if you could do the tech-y version of "speak really slowly and use small words", I'd be very grateful. |

You have something on your system that has installed broken windows explorer shell extensions. Uninstall it and you will be fine. From your error message, the most likely culprit is Dell Backup and Recovery

"Dell Backup and Recovery" appears to be interfering with calibre.
This has been known to happen with programs that inject code into the File Open dialog, for example adding icon overlays. If you uninstall that software (which sounds like the spamware that typically comes prebundled by the laptop vendor) then you will most likely be fine. Edit: ninjaed... ![]() |

Thanks to both of you. Since I don't use it, I'm going to uninstall the Dell Backup program and see if that fixes it.
