Screen Stuck on Last Page Read
Stupid question #187
Can you use a kindle keyboard battery in either the K4 or K5? I don't know if the KK works because the screen has the last thing I was reading on it. Stupid question #198 Or can I replace the screen? Or do one of you need it for parts? |

#198: It is possible, but usually not cost effective to replace the screen in a KK (K3). Post a picture of the screen (as an attachment) - then we can see if the screen if broken or not. If the screen's not broken, it's probably the battery, which (IIRC) is fairly easy to replace in a KK. |

Try a reboot. Unplug the charger. Slide the power button on and hold it on a full 30 to 40 seconds. Then release the power button and plug it in a few hours. This sometimes gets them going again.

Paul,
I absolutely refuse to screenshot that screen due to the family friendly rules. The last thing I was reading is on it. The power light still comes on, so it isn't the battery. At the other poster, tried rebooting. I still have that same screen. So I guess since I now know it is completely DOA, I shall just scrap it. Thanks for all your help. |

Since Paul looked at the screen, we can confirm it isn't broken.
The power light comes on just fine, with or without the battery. If I hold the power button, it blinks like it is restarting. My problem is that the screen is stuck on the last page I was reading. I can't see anything else. |

I can confirm that I have seen a photo of the screen, and it's definitely not a broken substrate issue.
The question is, what further tests can Cinisajoy do to find out what's wrong? Umm.. does it show up as a removable disk when connected to your computer via USB? |

Unless you have taken the KK apart and looked at the back side of the screen to see if the glass layer is broken, you can't rule out screen damage just by the front appearance. I've worked on many of these where the image on the front was perfect, but frozen. Then I would take the kindle apart and find the under glass layer shattered. Sometimes shattered glass will let the front image update, and then you see a broken image. But sometimes a shattered glass will not let the front image update and it remains on the last image shown.

It fell into a tub of hot water which caused the screen to freeze. Any help is appreciated. |

The motherboard and/or screen controller are almost certainly fried. It's an ex-Kindle. You can get a refurbished KK for about $20 these days. I really wouldn't waste any more time on this.

Cin, why on Earth didn't you tell us up front that you'd dropped it into water? That's going to kill practically any electronic device. Short circuit. Instant toast.
