Hi! Nice to be here! I'm Stefan and as i said upward, im looking for a new e-reader which allows me not only to read but also record, highlite and take notes... i'm thinking about a device like the onyx m96 or a tablet, but i would prefer an e-ink device because of my eyes... any good suggestion???

What do you mean by recording? If you mean audio, you probably need a tablet.

Hi Stefan, welcome!
Other than the Onyx Boox M96, there are 3 devices I know which would meet your requirements: 1. Hanvon WiseReader E920: 9.7-inch screen, dual touch, closed operating system, available from AliExpress. 2. Hanvon WiseReader E930: same as above, but also has a frontlight. 3. Onyx Boox N96: see http://www.onyx-international.com.cn...ucts/n96-n96ml. Not yet released, but probably worth waiting for, as it has open Android which lets you install your favorite apps. I expect they will start selling it in a few weeks, priced around EUR 350-400. I am using the M96 (predecessor of the N96). No sound recording, but otherwise a great tool for taking handwritten notes! Last edited by Jmirko; 02-16-2016 at 09:30 AM. |

In my opinion, the Onyx Boox M96/M96C/N96 are better than the Hanvons, for the simple reason that they run Android and include the Google Play Store. This means you can install nearly any Android app that you need.
For example, I am not happy with the built-in handwriting app of the M96 (Onyx Scribbler). So I searched the Market and tried several dozen apps, finally chose Lecture Notes which is perfect for my needs. Likewise, you can choose between many reading apps, RSS readers, chess apps, email apps, etc. You can even connect your reader with a bluetooth keyboard and use it as a monitor. With Hanvon, what you see is what you get - it's not possible to install additional apps on the device. Until recently, Hanvon had the hardware advantage: Onyx didn't offer a model with front light, dual touch (hand+stylus), or sound recording. Now with the N96, those functions will be available, although not in a single device - in this respect, the Hanvon E930 is still the leader. However, if you don't desperately need all those functions, the open operating system and app availabilty are more important advantages. The other reason is support: Onyx is available and supported outside of China, Hanvon is not (with the possible exception of Russia). |

I wouldn't worry about that. Most Android apps are compatible with Android 4.0, especially those you are likely to want to run on it. The processor also seems o.k. for reading, handwriting, and email. You won't be doing video editing on it, that's for sure.

If you mean the N96: yes it is available. Currently out of stock at ereader-store.de, but available on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Onyx-BOOX-N9...-/281957799590
If you are in Europe, you must pay import duties on top of this price. The M96 seems to be discontinued, but you can still snap up the last units, such as: http://www.amazon.de/Onyx-BOOX-M96-e...=onyx+boox+n96 The main difference is sound recording - you decide if it's worth an additional 100 EUR to you. |

Interesting. So the M96 has now bit the dust? Do you know how long this model was around? |
