Adding nationality to the author information

Hi everybody:
I wonder if it's possible to add a field for the nationality of each author. The only "information" we can add is a link, but I think it's interesting show also nationality of the author.

Is that possible in Calibre?

Like you, I wish that I could add a custom Column to Parent tables (Authors, Series, Publishers) These are the 'proper' place in a 1-M Relational model.

Table: Series.Description for a summary of the Series (not book), series.Characterlist

Table:Authors.pen-names (1-M), Authors.bio ....
Table: Publisher.parent (I currently use Publisher for the IMPRINT not the owner)

Custom columns only belong to the Book Title level.

BetterRed's Evernote integration is one rather good solution for this. It facilitates keeping any information you want for an author and viewing that information easily from calibre.

Note that BetterRed's solution also works for book notes by using an evernote: url in a custom comments column.

I will explain. I am testing a custom column, but the problem is, how do when there are 2 or more authors per book? For that reason I seek how to add a field to the author information.

But I found a problem with my request: How Calibre would show each author's nationality when the perpetrators always shown one after the other joined by a &?

Why I do not use the link to the author for this purpose? Because I just need the data of nationality and it does not seem interesting having to load an entire web page only to find out the nationality of the perpetrator.

Evernote suggestion let me find a way to add notes to books. Thank you. The only drawback I find is that should put the link to Evernote to link author.

Any suggestions?

You can add an evernote link as the author link. Perhaps that is what you said.

Calibre does not support adding information per author other than the author link. That will not change anytime soon. I also suspect that you will find that you want more information per author than just the nationality such a bibliography, multiple links describing the author, the author's web site, a photo, your opinion of the author, and so on.

You can use a custom column, behaves like tags, contains names column to enter the nationality of authors for a book. You would enter the nationalities in the same order as the author names. Because the column is "contains names" the order will be preserved. Of course you would be required to do this for every book, not every author, which is a *lot* more work.

I'm not sure if I understand you. My english is not the best, for now. My problem is when a book is written by 2 or more authors. The custom column works if there's only one author.
I'm I right?

The column might work because it is 'Like Tags" US, GB (I used country codes)

What that does not indicate is Which author is US and Which is GB

Again, custom columns entries always belong to the BOOK

The Authors Link is the only way to have the information apply to the Author.
The issue is that information is not available to the templates (and the book).

Think of it as a sticky-note on the box of books by a single author name
