System Restart?

Why does the Windows update for 2.49 require a system restart? I did not think that Calibre did anything that required a system modification.

I saw restarts mentioned in other threads so I guess it is OK.

The standard reason is that calibre or one of it's components (Book View / Editor) were still running when you did the upgrade. I know I had no such issue on my installation.

rare, but not unheard of.

I run the standalone content server on a fixed library on the same system as the Calibre GUI, so I can switch libraries there without affecting the content server.

Sometimes I forget when doing an upgrade.

Also easily 'missable' if you minimise calibre to the 'tray', especially if the icon is hidden.

And that can happen if Windows decides to do 'running repairs' on the task bar Ψ²

IMO it's best to only show tray icons on the task bar that you really need to see, then if Windows does hide them one is more likely to notice they're not there.
