Energy Sistem Ereader Pro + odd behaviour

I recently bought an Ereader Pro + and have noted some slightly odd behaviour.

I have uploaded a couple of hundred books to it, five by the same author. All are EPUB format.

What I have noticed is that some of the books, when I open them will then appear in the "Recently Read" section of the Main menu, two, however will not; and although when I do open them again they retain their last read position the percentage read as shown by the file browser shows as "NEW". I'm set to use FBReader as my book reader for EPUB.

One point I have noticed is that the two books that don't appear both have an apostrophe in their title.

Is there a known problem with apostrophes in titles stopping items from appearing in the "Recently Read" area (and thus making it easy to re-open a book) or could this just be coincidence and the problem lies elsewhere ?

The build number for the reader is :
V1.0.0_2015040314

Hi BobC,

I own the same device and face the exact same problem.
Surprisingly I am 100% sure it used to work fine with some other books with ' in their titles .. and I did not change anything recently.

Maybe it could be due to a ' not in the book title but in the folder where the epub is located ?? I don't have my Pro+ right now, will test tomorrow.

It's certainly not the name of the folder that is causing the problem as all five books are in the same folder.

I've solved it by removing the apostrophe from the titles and regenerating the books with Calibre and then uploading them. The effect of this is also to remove the apostrophe from the filename used on the reader and these books with modified titles do appear in the recently read list.

I expect it is the filename where the issue arises - I seem to remember a problem with apostrophes in filenames with another reader, though I think that was solved in the Calibre conversion to Kepub.

The above solution is flakey because it changes the title as well which can also affect the book cover if it is a Calibre generated one. For completeness I've worked out the best way to solve the issue see :

That way the apostrophes get stripped from the filename while the books are being uploaded. So I now use a template

{author}/{title_sort:re(',)}
configured in the device associated with the EReader.
