Calibre Library in OSX hidden volume
Hi, all. Probably a n00b question, sorry if my Google-fu is weak. I'm using Calibre 1.48 on a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
My question: My Calibre Library is stored on an external hard drive. One day, out of nowhere, when I clicked on a book's "path" in Calibre, I saw that suddenly the contents of my library had moved to this other Volume that I can't normally see in Finder. When I hit the "Calibre Folder" button in Calibre I see that there's a Calibre Folder here: /Volumes/External/Calibre Folder/ ...and it contains the files "metadata.db", "metadata_pre_restore.db" and "metadata_db_prefs_backup.json". But then there's also this invisible volume called "External 1" and another one called "External 2". And in this invisible folder: /Volumes/External 1/Calibre Folder/ ...are all the actual books in my library, but not those metadata.db files. I wonder if this happened due to my attempting to create, and then deciding against creating, a Time Machine backup, because I also now have an alias called External 2 that's been turned green with the Time Machine icon on it. Anyway. Um. Help? I'd like to get my library back on "External" in the same folder as the metadata.db files and whatnot and not on a Volume I can't actually access via the Finder. Thank you so much and I hope this made some amount of sense. Last edited by BetterRed; 01-04-2016 at 03:26 PM. Reason: To add OSX to the thread title |

Solved!
So I copied* all the books out of one of the "invisible" drives and moved it to my external, and then switched the library's location in Calibre to my external and that seemed to do the trick. The "invisible" drives also seemed to disappear once I threw out the files. So weird. But at least it worked?
*Since these all should be the exact same external, it was weird that dragging files from the invisible "External 2" to my visible, actual external drive resulted in copying the files... it's like there really were two extra drives created. Maybe I somehow partitioned the drive by accident? I have no idea. But my library's back where I want it. If anyone knows what I did to cause this, please enlighten me! I think it was something to do with Time Machine. |
