I have often that there goes something wrong with the database that i am working on, i has never any success when calibre tries to rebuild the database and it keeps saying that the database is corrupted, can somebody not make a plugin that the database where you work at that moment with is periodically (lets say 15 minutes) is backupped because i need every time to add all the books again with the lost of images and so on.

I only get
calibre, version 2.48.0 ERROR: Failed: Restoring database failed, click Show details to see details Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\db\restore.py", line 125, in run File "site-packages\calibre\db\restore.py", line 278, in replace_db WindowsError: [Error 32] Het proces heeft geen toegang tot het bestand omdat het door een ander proces wordt gebruikt: u'\\\\rt-ac68u-5108\\Werkmap\\CalibreWerkMap\\metadata.db' So it seems that i have to restore in command interface outside of calibre probably with calibredb restore_database [options] |

I succeeded to rebuild the library by moving the files to another map and restore the database without the meta files, hooray for that at least but when i try to delete the old folder with the metadata.db.journal files it refuses to remove the file, i use a unlocker and this says there is no locked file but still it doesn't dissappear.

Oke, thanks for your response, i think your right about that its a network drive, i edit my music audiobooks and books on my computer but i like to switch off the computer and start using my android phone, tablet and minix box for using my media, i think this is the future and if its not possible than its not the fault of Calibre but i have to cope with it, when accessing my router (a very good one) i am able to make maps from the root but i cant access lower maps so its not possible to try and remove the problem from that side, i will try to communicate about the problem at the forum of my router and hope they have a solution for it.
Sincerely Thanks. |

@Mondriaan - Kovid is working on a completely new calibre-server feature. It may well address the sort of issues you are having.
So - watch this space. BR |

Any drive (controller) not attached physically to the data bus of your computer is a 'Networked drive'.
This would also include non-native OS drives, even though they may pass the 'attached' rule. SMB shares can be flaky when pushed hard. Calibre pushes hard ![]() They might work.. for awhile .... then....Burp ![]() |

If you need to access your media from another device while your computer is off, consider syncig it, either to Dropbox or via one-way sync (MS SyncToy) to the NAS.

Thank you for your reaction but filesize gets in this time very large (Flac audio, blueray video, comic files and pdf) that you need a lot of storage capacity and then the 16 gig that dropbox delivers for free accounts (max 16 gig) is much to low and to pay a fat 700 euro in a year for 5 users is to expensive, my own hard disk is a much better conclusion.

Not Run the Library from the NAS And while convenient, Why do ALL file types need to be remote accessible or All in the same place? It is supposed to be a Cloud. ![]() Shortcuts and Bookmarks are a solution for getting at them fast. |

Additionally a router is not really designed for robust file sharing, nor is your home internet connection very speedy on the uplink side.

In Singapore I can get 100/100 mbps in an HDB flat. I have friends in Lithuania (pop 3m) and Estonia who have similar deals. Here, 8km from the Sydney CBD (pop 5m), I'm lucky to get 20/2 mbps for a substantially higher tariff. 'Aaah but', say TPTB, 'our fireworks are better.' ![]() BR |
