Importing old Files
I found a disk of books that I saved some time ago, as well as a large cache in an old recycle bin (older computer). I really want to add them to my library, but they are already in calibre ordered files including the .OPF and separate .jpegs. The ones on the disk have the APNX files as well as the .OPF, which makes me wonder how that happened since Calibre always skips over those files. They are not attached to a library with a database file. How can I import these books without losing those files?
Also..How would I go about reuniting a .opf file in a database with the missing books? I have a lot of libraries on Drop Box that the books have been removed from, but the .OPF files are still there. I found the books but have no idea how to get them to merge back into those file folders. |

Add Books ==> Add books from directories, including sub-directories (one book per directory, assumes every ebook file is the same book in a different format)
It will import info from the OPF/JPEG as well. Then use the Find Duplicates plugin to clean up. |

I kept thinking that I needed to start a new library and point it to the one with all the opf files...Now I understand what you meant....yeah this is going to be a hassle, but it should be worth it.
Thank you! BTW...will that work with apnx files? I keep getting them in the downloads, but since I can't figure out what file they belong to I just throw them away, but is there a way to merge them together? |

If they are in a saved-to-disk directory and you use the specified Add books option, they should be imported as another format.
They are page numbers for use with the Kindle, and to be honest you would have to manually copy them to the Kindle in order to use them. Probably not worth it. ![]() |

Yeah they are the mbp files that allow for the use of the extra functions on the kindle. And yes, they are downloading as an extra book.
However, it seems that my "invisible" files that I thought were just the .opf for books was actually the books.. I was expecting to see the metadata but when I discovered that there were books too I was kind of shocked because when I open the folders to download them, they are empty, but I end up with a perfectly formatted and with metadata book. Although, I download each author individually. Last edited by Rellwood; 01-02-2016 at 09:55 PM. |

Not entirely sure what you mean, but it sounds like it's working for you so okay.

IIRC mbp is a sidecar to a matching Mobi book file, not a stand alone book.
Calibres 'check Library' always complained about extra files if it found a mbp in with the book (created because I used a mobipocket reader to view the book instead of the internal viewer) |
