Hello everybody,
I just got a new kindle paperwhite. Today I set up a family library in order to share my books and documents with my family members.
But unfortunately it seems to be not so easy. Sharing books that have been bought at Amazon is no problem. But obviously it is not possible to share documents that have been sent by mail to the amazon cloud. Those documents can be seen on my own reader but willnot appear in the family library.

I have been looking for a solution during the last 3 or 4 hours. I found a way to remove the "personal banner" on the covers of books that have been sent to the reader by calibre or that have been stored to the reader by just dragging and dropping them into the documents folder of the device. But those documents can not be put to the cloud. And the documents in the cloud still have this "personal banner" so they can not be seen by the family members.

It would be highly appreciated if anyone could tell me a way how to share those "personal documents" in the family library.

Just send the document to the other Kindle, and it will be in both archives.

Or just Side Load them to what ever Kindle you want them on.

My guess is that Amazon did this on purpose since personal documents will be confidential in a lot of cases. While that might make it a bit trickier to use for some people for others it would be impossible to use both the family sharing and personal documents.

In this case there is no need for a family library and you could not use the advantages of it.

For this I always need the other Kindle device. There are about 500 km between me and the other family members, not very practical.

You can email the document to the other Kindle's email address just like you emailed it to your email address.

i believe that this was done on purpose, as each kindle device registered, including non-kindle devices such as an ipad with the kindle app, will get a unique email address. in order to see the same personal doc on all devices, you will have to email the same doc to all devices using the unique email addresses for each device.

No. There is only a problem when Family Library is involved. In the ordinary case every Kindle registered to the same account sees the same personal documents in the cloud.

There is an amusing bug here, when you do a "remove from device" on the Kindle to which the original email address belongs, after a day or so it is downloaded again.

Unique email addresses allow you to choose which device to send to. But by default your PDOC settings are set to save PDOCs in your Kindle Cloud, so they will be available to download from the device, for all your other devices as well.

Thanks a lot to all of you for your efforts. But if there is no one in this forum who can give me a hint I have to consider that it is not possible to solve my problem.

A workaround may be to use Calibre to wirelessly transfer your documents. You may consider opening a thread in the Calibre section of this forum to get a resolution to your problem.

All these workarounds are standard and of course I tested them before I have been posting my question in this forum.

I have been looking for a possibility to modify those books in a way that makes them appear as books in my account, not as personal documents. Sending them to several accounts is no real solution of that problem, it is a workaround which can not replace the functionality of a working family library.

I did not want to pace anybody in this forum by my last post. I just determined that there is no solution for my problem right now.
