has it ever worked?
Did (can) you set the fire to look like a disk instead of a MTP (or PTP ![]() |

Yes it worked the first time I connected the fire to calibre however the next day it stopped working. Updating calibre didn't help. Not sure how to get fire to look like a disk but I was able to use calibre to email the book to my fire as a workaround.

The only option is under Device Options>Developers Options>USB computer connections. Once there the only option is to toggle between MTP and PTP. Neither option allowed the fire to work with calibre. I can see the file on the fire using Explorer which I've used to sideload books.

Yes, it is set to MTP and still Calibre is not able to connect with the Fire without an error prompt. I even tried rebooting the computer, restaring the fire tab yet still continued to get the following error message.
Quote:
* Edit* I just noticed on the error log that I may've downloaded the 32 bit version of Calibre. Would downloading the 64 bit version solve the problem since my computer is running 64 bit Windows? *Edit* Well so far the kindle fire isn't working with the 64bit version of Calibre either. Quote:

On my Nexus 7, it connects in charging mode. To change to either PTP or MTP you need to select the notification of connection in the drop down list, and select the desired mode there. This is for the life of THIS connection and needs to be redone on each connection.

On the kindle fire I don't know if there is a "charging mode." Anyway, it seems easier for now to use the wireless capablities of calibre to send my books to the fire instead of the usb cable. Since I was able to install google play on my kindle I downloaded the demo version of calibre companion and just sent a book that way. Still it would nice to be able to transfer books via usb in case the internet is down for whatever reason.

I'm currently in the process of downloading to calibre 2.49 to see if this resolves the connectivity problem with the kindle fire. In the meantime I ran the following command prompt (i hope) and got the following results.

Was the Kindle attached? That says drives C and D are local (non removable) and E is an optical drive. No removable drives found.

When I search these forums for wpderror the standard advice seems to be to reboot both the PC and the device.

That is an error transferring a file to the device. If rebotting does not fix it, your remaining options are
1) Resetting the device 2) Using one of the wireless transfer methods described here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....kindle-fire-hd |
