Lightbulb Free (nook/Kindle/ePub) Communicating the Word [Academic Muslim & Xtian Idea Essays]

Communicating the Word: Revelation, Translation, and Interpretation in Christianity and Islam edited by David Marshall with an afterword by Archbishop Rowan Williams (Wikipedia) is an academic collection of theological and surrounding cultural essays by leading scholars about Muslim and Christian thought both contemporary and classical, translations and interpretations of their respective scriptures, etc. which arose out of the 2008 Building Bridges inter-faith seminar, free courtesy of publisher Georgetown University Press.

Currently free @ B&N (also UK), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), and eBooks.com (ADE-DRM ePub & PDF available worldwide). May or may not also be free at other venues listed on the publisher's webcatalogue page, where you can see the full list of contents and contributors, as well as read some favourable review quotes.

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because what with all the assorted multi-faith and secular holidays around this time of year, it does seem in their spirit (well, minus Festivus, unless we categorize this under "the airing of the grievances" regarding translation/interpretation errors) to finally feature a nice-looking academic title which itself was produced in the spirit of goodwill and co-operation and such, and has been generously offered freely to promote such for a number of years now.

Enjoy!

Description
Communicating the Word is a record of the 2008 Building Bridges seminar, an annual dialogue between leading Christian and Muslim scholars convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Featuring the insights of internationally known Christian and Muslim scholars, the essays collected here focus attention on key scriptural texts but also engage with both classical and contemporary Islamic and Christian thought. Issues addressed include, among others, the different ways in which Christians and Muslims think of their scriptures as the "Word of God," the possibilities and challenges of translating scripture, and the methods -- and conflicts -- involved in interpreting scripture in the past and today.

In his concluding reflections, Archbishop Rowan Williams draws attention to a fundamental point emerging from these fascinating contributions: "Islam and Christianity alike give a high valuation to the conviction that God speaks to us. Grasping what that does and does not mean... is challenging theological work."

Thanks for checking! It doesn't exist at Google or iTunes in Canada, and I can't even look up Google US prices without doing an entire VPN IP proxy thing which tends to fail half the time anyway.

YW.

Also, for any having problems with downloading EPUBs at google (since they try to force updated ADE to support EPUB3, I can't download to my primary machine at all, which I maintain at an old version, so I can support some old ereaders), EBOOKS.COM lets you pick either by device or format and download. Don't often see freebies there, but they at least don't treat you like content thieves, as one well-known bookstore does.
