Creating Columns

I have several different libraries. I sort by genre. Since I usually read a different genre each day it is easier for me to have libraries by genre. I also manage the library for several of my family members (mother, son, nieces) so having different libraries is easier for me. I know I can go into Calibre and add a singe column to each library but is there a way to do this across all libraries? I want to add a column to determine if it has been read with the answer being the person's name. Instead of going into each one is it possible to add a column that will be across all libraries instead of doing it one at a time.

for any and all help.

No, but you might want to investigate using Virtual Libraries, and see if that works instead.

Virtual libraries are restricted to a search, e.g. all books that match a specific "genre" tag.

Thanks eschwartz I am not a fan of the virtual libraries. I am very OCD about my libraries lol. After someone here told me I could create libraries by genre I had a lot of fun. Now if I could create sub-libraries in the libraries it would thrill my heart lol. Not something I need just would help so I could put books read by the person's name and/or store purchased.

Yes I am a little crazy lol.

Thanks for such a fast reply. I greatly appreciate it.

@KyBunnies:

Yes, sort of. I do it frequently. Simply add your new custom column to the first Calibre library, then copy a book from that library to each of your other Calibre libraries. When asked, say that you do want to add the "missing" custom column.

You could create an empty, dummy ebook using "Add Books", and copy it in order to automatically add the new custom column to the recipient library. That way, you would not have to worry about an inappropriate book being copied into a particular Calibre library.

@DaltonST

I think the OP wants to be able to search across them as well.
There is not a huge investment in manually creating the same library several times, not if they already have to be maintained several times.

Which reminds me perhaps your [GUI Plugin] Multi-Column Search could help...

I did not mention search but yes that is one option I would love. Thanks for reminding me eschwartz.

Adding the CALM plugin DaltonST. I have bookmarked the page. I am sure to have questions. Since I am not a tech savvy person be prepared for very stupid novice questions

Thanks so much for all the help. Have a wonderful day.

Merry Christmas
