Recommendation for picky ereader buyer

I'd like to purchase a new eReader, having previously owned a Sony Reader and a Kindle. I enjoyed both, and was quite happy with each.

Here are my needs/requirements:

I want to be able to use Calibre easily with the device. I don't care about doing anything on the device beyond reading books. I did enjoy the wi-fi on the Kindle, but its not a necessity. I don't care about backlighting, though I appreciate it-- I have no use for bells and whistles I would find in a tablet. Preferably, I'd like it to be fairly straightforward-- just an ereader.

I do not want to deal with ads, and am seriously upset that ads are even a thing on ereaders.

There will be a mix of purchased, self-created, and [Phrase deleted - MODERATOR] content on the device.

I don't wish to have to jailbreak a device. I'm amazed these simple requirements are so difficult to satisfy, please help!

Calibre can be easily used to transfer books to any device currently available. If you mean that you want to manage collections then Kobo is most likely the direction you want to go.

AFAIK Kindle is the only one with an ad option, but it's just that - an option. All of the models are available with or without ads and the with ads models can easily be converted to no ads for a fee.

Which requirement exactly are you finding difficult?
