Another Aussie - Sydney this Time

Hi All,

I saw a Sony being used by a visitor for WYD ( World Youth Day for those lucky not to have been here ! ) and want one. But this problem about having to use gift cards etc is putting me off. So I wll be closely reading the forums to bone up on alternatives.

I read a fair bit of fiction and my wife is always telling me to clean out teh bookshelves of paperbacks. So a reader and a library on a HDD is the way to go for me.

Cheers all

Erina

First post, and you're already venting. (I've only 10 months ago left Sydney for "warmer climes" [he says amidst 15C and rain])

Definitely keep an eye out here. You haven't mentioned the Iliad, so I presume that's out. There's a Melbourne(? or was it Perth?) mob that have the Cybook as well, which might be an option. Have a search round here for Astak Mentor/Netronix for something that might be reasonably imminent (like an Apple tablet/UMPC is "imminent"? )

Don't listen to her; she's just making room for her own hobbies!

Having my books with me, and e-ink on the device, is definitely great stuff.

Welcome aboard.

Cheers,
Marc

Also in Sydney

Hi Erina

I also live in Sydney and I have a Sony 505 which I bought in the States late last year.

After being stuck with what to do I have started converting Gutenberg books, buying from non DRM websites and uploading books all over the place.

I have 110 books on the machine now and rising.

It's actually quite easy and the machine itself is great.

If you want to learn what I have learned let me know!

Good to see more Aussies coming on here.
Hopefully now that the new firmware for the Sony 505 supports ePub, it will be possible to buy books from stores other than Sony!
