I think there is a bug that means occasionally it saves to the beginning of a chapter rather than your reading point if you power off.
My fix for it is just to sleep it always ;-) |

It could also be caused by a faulty book, e.g. a book that has a broken TOC, or a book that was sideloaded as a KePub but wasn't properly converted to KePub format first, or a book that was sideloaded with Calibre over top of an old version of the same book without deleting the old version first. Edit: It could also be caused by a fault in the device's database, but I think you could expect to see lots of other problems too if that was the case. Edit2: After looking back I see the bug appeared in firmware version 3.17.0 and was fixed in version 3.17.3 Last edited by GeoffR; 11-16-2015 at 11:06 AM. I've seen the same problem on 3.15.0 which I'm now pondering to upgrade. To the point that I started wondering if someone was playing with the device in my absence

This is e behaviour I have seen all along. I'm reading a book; the device sleeps. On resume I'm a few screens back from where I left off.

On an Aura specifically or on a Kobo device(s) in general? Never had it happen once after reading over 400 books (converted to kePub on transfer by Calibre) on my Aura HD. It would drive me nuts if this happened all the time.

Apart from one or two firmware versions that have had a problem, I haven't seen that. Or at least not often enough to think it wasn't me brushing the screen as I closed the cover.
Does it always happen? Does it also happen if you close and reopen the book? Can you tell if it is going back to the start of the current page? You can tell if you have the Adobe epub numbers on. After the wake/restart, the number shown in the margin would be what was at the bottom of the screen before. If this is the case, the bigger the font, margins or line spacing, the more noticeable it will be. |

Years ago in firmware 2.3.1 there was a bug that affected ePubs in this way, but only if the margin slider was in a certain position (at the minimum setting I think, but can't remember exactly) and it was fixed in firmware 2.3.2.
Since then I've never seen the problem with ePubs on my Glo unless there was something wrong with the TOC in the book, and then I think it usually went back to the beginning of the chapter or beginning of the book rather than just a few pages. (But if it only happens after powering off the device then I probably wouldn't notice, since I never do that if I can avoid it.) |

I've run 3.15.0 and I've never encountered this bug where the ePub ends up a few pages back.

Yep, davidfor fixed the bug a couple of years ago - but now I'm trying to remember the symptoms and the cure!!
![]() From memory the symptoms were that even when you dog ear bookmarked the page and then either turned the unit off directly, or went back to the main screen and turned the device off, when you came into the book again it was at least one or more pages back from the dog ear page. The fix was something to do with the margins. So from memory we had to keep the margin slider at the far left, in other words the 'off' position. And I think it was as simple as the margin slider. David I'm testing your memory on this one ..... ![]() |
