Historical Romance recommendations
My wife has given me the assignment of finding her a new author to read. I know nothing about this genre, and literature-map wasn't tossing out any obvious winners, so I am turning to the good folks here. Here's what I know:
1. She just finished all the books by Tamera Alexander, so probably something in that vein (whatever that is). 2. She said "historical romance". She also said "Christian". I found a series set in ancient Rome, and then she added "Pioneers", so I think she means 1700's - 1800's. 3. Other authors she has liked were Janet Evanovitch and J.D. Robb. 4. She prefers long series with the same characters, as opposed to individual standalone books, so she always knows what she is going to read next. Any thoughts? |

Lori Copeland might be a possibility. I read her Timber Creek series and enjoyed it even though it's not my preferred genre.

Has she read the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon? They're set in the 18th century and undeniably romance.

![]() Dee Henderson is another author she has read recently, if that sparks any additional recommendations. |

I really liked the Lady Julie Gray series by Deanna Raybourn. The first book is Silent in the Grave.
If she likes historical mystery series with just a hint of romance, there's the Gaslight Mysteries by Victoria Thompson, starting with Murder on Astor Place. |

My sister is really into these Christian Amish romance novels by Janette Oke. Has your wife seen them? I haven't read them but I know they're popular among Christian romance readers.

The Francisca Cahill series by Brenda Joyce is gaslight London and follows a single heroine for 9 books. The Company of Rogues regency series by Jo Beverly are about friends of friends where the stars of one novel play bit parts in others for 15+ books. The Bastion Club by Stephanie Laurens and Bridgerton by Juila Quinn are similar. I'd lump all the authors in with Evanovich's historicals for style and all have huge backlists for further exploration.
IIRC they are not as clean as Signet/Zebra Regency books but not as sex filled as more modern novels so I'm not sure if they'll pass the 'Christian' test. None is pioneer but London urban. I think your wife should read Kristen Heitzmanns series "Diamond of the Rockies".
