Does more screen resolution make that much difference?
If I was reading graphics novels or comic books I would agree but I am reading text, Give me a faster processor and I will buy the upgrade every time.

I really don't see any difference between my K3 & PW2 so I say Nope.

I definitely see the difference between my Paperwhite 2 and my Voyage. The latter one is much sharper. But of course it depends on your personal perception and on how good your eyes are. Mine are old and tired.

Whereas the best possible screen and resolution should improve the look of the text you are reading and since the screen is what you spend all your time staring at.... it makes sense that its the key area to be improved. |

For me, it's tough to say, since everytime I've done an upgrade for eink for more DPI the screen technology has also changed, for example pearl->carta.

Well, it can. My PRS-950 was my favorite ereader, but the gray-on-gray aspect was tedious. Once the H20 came out, bigger than 6" and with the Carta screen, I fell, but it took the combination. I still prefer the Sony's firmware and hardware. I don't care about the light or the waterproofing.

I am thinking of the ability to go from the book selection to the book text. In a race my Blackberry Classic is five times faster than my paperwhite from the time I tap on the book to the time I see the text. However I guess it depends on wht is important.

I feel that screen size and front light quality is more noticeable than pixel density. That's why the Kobo H2O looks so much better than the KV to many people. Really hoping for a MUCH better front light on the KV2 and hopefully a slightly larger screen.

I honestly couldn't give a damn if it takes 0.5s rather than 0.1s to open a book. I'm not in that much of a hurry. The smoothness of the text (ie the resolution of the screen) is far, far more important.

I agree with Harry, a nice smooth clear pixel free screen to read on makes all the difference.

My PW3 is hugely different to the only other 2 readers ive tried (K4 NT and Kobo Glo) so yes for me the better resolution and ppi is important.

Font quality/clarity is the number one issue for me. Counter-intuitively, the worse my eyes have gotten the more this matters. You would think you might not notice small incremental differences if your eyes are not that sharp, but it does affect eye fatigue.

Yes. Tremendous with comic/manga. At first glance might be not visible when reading normal text. But after some time if you compare it with PW1/2 - difference is obvious.
